Has anyone installed xenon HID lights?

Considering throwing a cheapie HID Xenon bulb and ignitor kit into these headlights.

Was very impressed with a conversion in another vehicle until a bulb burned out, got two + years of use from it anyway, awesome headlights, I could actually see inside the deers skull to see waht it was thinking while smoking its retinas. po mans LEDs

That was a 4 bulb system, with xenon low and incandescent high.

I am not even sure they make high low Single bulb HID Xenons...

Does anyone know the color temperature that flies under CHP radar?

Looking for any feedback or opinions...

HID's don't work as well in halogen housings, the light scatters and blinds other drivers and is ****ing annoying IMHO. But I imagine some company makes HID replacement housings for our vehicles to properly spread the light.

"Bixenon" are the single hi-low bulbs, they have a shield that spins when the high beam is switched to direct light to the bottom of the reflector.

The best thing to do IMO is an HID projector retrofit. It is an excellent upgrade.

I would not go higher than 5000k color, above 6000k the useful light output is lower.

You get what you pay for. If you buy a cheap kit, you will have cheap results.

I completely agree with ajohnson. ….especially his colorful remark on just how annoying these cheap HID retrofit kits are to other motorists (a pet peeve of mine). IMO/IME, the only way to do a responsible, “proper” (albeit still illegal) HID retrofit in a reflector housing is by installing quality, HID projectors. Unfortunately, it’s not cheap if you want to do it right (hence the popularity of the plug-in kits)

If I can make a suggestion, you might want to consider something like a conversion housing that will allow you to run replaceable bulb. I bought a set of Hella Vision Plus headlamps that take a 9003/HB2 halogen bulb. The light output and beam pattern are noticeably improved over the stock sealed beams even with the supplied, OEM quality bulbs they provided. These housing also provide the flexibility of installing high efficacy bulbs like the Xtreme Power +80s from Phillips. They are currently $47 at Amazon for the pair (with OEM bulbs):

They simply bolt in to replace your sealed beam headlamps. A conversion harness is included. Install is just as quick as replacing the original lamps with stock ones. Good quality high efficacy bulbs will typically run you ~$35-$45 for a pair. I usually get about 18 months out of the ones I have used for some of my other vehicles (Osram and Phillips).

If I ever feel the need to upgrade even further, I might just go with one of the newer LED conversions like this one from GE:

However, IIRC they are about $500 for the pair. ….ouch.


EDIT: I guess I should have asked but I was assuming this was an H6054 application we are talking about.
