Have you driven someone else's 5th gen extensively?

So I'm here on a business trip and I have a 2016 SR5 base model as a loaner for 2 weeks. It has 5300 miles on it.

I have a 2015 Limited I've had since Sept 2014 with 11,000 miles on it.

For the rental I have, I have noticed the brakes feel different, the shocks for the SR5 are way softer. A lot more brake dive and squatting with acceleration. Also the roll stiffness is much less.

The one big thing I have noticed is that the steering wheel controls don't squeek when you use them for the rental. But my limited does! It has annoyed me ever since my 4runner was brand new and I was shocked not all of them do it. Should I take it in for warranty?

Oh and the SR5 base stereo is horrendous! The bass and treble are all muddy and loose. But the SR5 must be a bit lighter than my limited with 3rd row, the accel seems quicker and stopping distances seem to be shorter.

So question goes, Have you driven other 5th gen's extensively and compared them to your own?

Yes definitely take in in for the steering wheel controls squeaking, smh.
The limited is a different vehicle. It has the xreas suspension.

I bought the limited knowing it has XRES suspension. I just didn't think it would be drastically so different. None of the dealers at the time I ordered my had a limited and SR5 on the same lot to cross compare for test drives.

I just looked up the curb weights...

SR5 4x4: 4675
Trail 4x4: 4750
Limited 4x4: 4805
TRD PRO: 4750

all from Toyota's website... Which doesn't have info if it is the 3rd row options or not for weights.... I would think no.

Regarding the SR5 stereo, did you check the bass treble balance?
I just bought mine a few months back and could not believe how bad it sounded. A few days later I checked the balance and the settings were waaaaay off. Someone mustve messed with them before I picked it up. Once balanced correctly, I found it to sound ok.
Nothing great but I'm coming from a '98 Honda CRV so to me the SR5 is like driving a Ferrari. I would like to get a suspension upgrade though.

Yup. Checked the stereo. Reset it, then have been playing with the treble, mid and bass settings to try to find a good setting.

The JBL from the Limited sounds much better than teh SR5.

I know people kind of bash on the JBL options: "You can do better aftermarket". Sure, but if you don't want to go that route? I compared an SR5 to a LTD back in '12 and, honestly, the stereo and the full time 4WD were the decision makers. The stock stereo suuuuuuuuucks.

The worst factory stereos on cars are the BOSE ones in my opinion. They sound like crap and usually stop working after 6-7 years.

I'm thankful Toyota doesn't use BOSE.
