Heading to Fayetteville, AR from DFW.....

Taking a lil road trip with the Runner up to the University of Arkansas, wanted to know if anyone knew of some offroad trails, national parks, etc to visit on the way. Thanks guys!

US-71 NE of Mena is nice. AR-23 past Ozark is fun and pretty. Otherwise there's more than a few trails near Big Cedar OK and east. I haven't been down there but know [MENTION=66624]KCcarguy[/MENTION] has been and should have some good advice.

Buckhorn OHV

Devils den state park area has a bunch of trails, buckhorn OHV to be more specific. I'll attach the trail map for ya. its the closest area around fayetteville that's got a good bunch of trails. Also there's some good hiking around this area. Other than that you've gotta go more to the east in the buffalo river area. Best time for these rides are in the summer when you can stop at the swimming holes. I'll be out hiking this weekend, not sure if it'll be devils den our more toward the buffalo river area

Yep. Buckhorn is cool. Some of the trails can get pretty gnarly and tight and are better suited to ATVs. Devils Den has some fun hiking too.

Just south of Big Cedar is the Kiamichi Trail (K-Trail). The trail crosses hwy 259 near the 3-Sticks monument. This marks the 1/2 way point on the trail. It actually starts near Clayton and runs approx. 80 miles east all the way to Hatfield/ Mena, AR. It's the best trail Oklahoma has to offer. Unfortunately, the Western half was recently closed to the public because large off-road groups (we are talking 30-100 rig convoys) were trespassing, being rude, and generally pissing off the locals....thats a hard lesson on treading lightly.

I haven't been there in about a yr...

nevermind...read your post...I was there with a group of about 10...we didn't haven any issues...and rolled through certain areas with caution
i know the locals aren't too fond of people passing through, and have been known to boobytrap the trails....that's a shame it's been closed
