The +100x is an H11 drop in without mods. The H9 you need to trim the connection and the metal tabs(not hard to do at all) 100x is $30 and H9's are 12 on Amazon. I didn't notice hot spots with them

Looking at them again, I'm not sure there's too much of a noticeable difference. They're cheap, which is nice, so maybe they're worth trying.

I did a search and found a few mentions of those bulbs. Anyone have any recommendation one way or another on them?

Gee, rather than quoting some site that nobody recognizes as an authority, I prefer to look towards the people that actually do testing - like IIHS that have the results for the 4Runner here and the MDX here.

That's totally aside from the fact that you are comparing apples to onions.

I'd like to know if the GE Nightbreaker Xenon +120 H11s are GTG in our trucks. I assume they are, because they're H11s and should just plug in, but Amazon lists them as incompatible. Those are the bulbs he recommended if you didn't want to do H9s. I'd go with those because they'll last longer, but the increased heat does concern me a bit.

Those H11's will fit, change the year to a 2017 4runner at it says they fit. They are exact same headlights as 2020

Question about the HIDs.

Do people typically install the HIDs in both the low beams and the high beams? Or is it just low beams and a top of the line halogen bulb in the high beam light? Since they're not instant-on, HIDs wouldn't seem a good fit for high beams.

Correct. Low beam only.

From what I’ve seen, many of the LED offerings actually output less but look brighter because of the color temp.

Also, without a module to control the output for the DRL it will be super bright.

With that I would recommend a better halogen bulb

The better halogen seems like the most convenient route to go. With that there are plenty of choices. Been looking around and the Slyvania siilver star ultras look like a good choice for what I want. I’m interested in maximum night visibility as opposed to color temp. Has anyone used them?

I tried them for a bit in my work truck (18-wheeler).
They would last about 2 weeks.

crashnburn80 recommends the German H9 Phillps and they are like $14/pr on Amazon and $7 for the conversion harness to H11 connectors. You could change the bulbs every other oil change and be ahead of the game compared to buying the HIDs/LEDs/HO Halo's

I like LED's.

The Hikari Ultra "Eyes of Megatron" H11/H9 LEDs, out of the ones that were tested, would be my choice if I went this route.

The Hikari's are designed in Japan and for the most part they get things right and dont 'eff around over there.

Right, I definitely wouldn't put LED in. But based on the writeup by crashnburn80 on tacomaworld, HIDs actually look like a pretty good option. They're not as effecient as the hallogens, but they're omni-directional and quite a bit brighter.

high beams are not h9/h11. they are 9005 and the upgrade path for 9005 would be 9011HIR.
