Not that anyone here has found, it is a common complaint. In my old suv if you kept pushing the dial up it would 'click' and everything would be at 100% brightness. I hardly do daylight/headlight driving so it is not that big of an issue for me, but I know for others here it is.

You can do that in the 4Runner. or is that not what she is talking about?

no, i know about that. i mean when you turn on the headlights it dims all the interior backlighting. thanks anyways.

Yes and No....you can adjust the back lighting, but it only goes to a certain brightness with the headlights on, it does not even get close to the brightness with the lights off. Essentially the 'click' i talked about was like an over-ride to bring it back to full brightness on my last suv. The big issue with this is how it affects the std radio display, barely readable in daylight with headlights on and the dial at max.

i must be really confused. i can turn my dial up all the way, and then it clicks, and the brightness of the gauges, radio, and other interior lights (excluding dome lights) is at max brightness. and once it has clicked, turning on/off the headlights has no effect on the brightness of other components.

Um, I believe I am also confused. My truck definitely does this... I turn the dial all the way up, CLICK, and everything is just as bright as when the headlights are off...
EDIT: Might be an SR5 thing? I have NAV and those whatever gauges that come on the TE/Limited, maybe the SR5 without nav and those gauges wont do it, but I find that hard to believe that the dial would be different...

I have an SR5 and there is no click in my switch. I can't set the display to max brightness when the headlights are on. I wonder if installing a switch from a Limited would work on an SR5.

I think it just might be an SR5 thing, as I also do not have a "click" when I raise the brightness all the way up. I also can not get the dash illumination to remain at the same brightness that it is, say when, the DRL are on. Once the headlights go on, the dash dims up quite significantly.

Wow, so I think its clear the SR5 won't do this. I would think it would cost toyota less for all the 4runners to use the same dial. Well sorry for the SR5 guys, that just seems silly, 1 step forward and 2 steps back kinda thing going on here...

Check the Dealer Configurable Options section of the owners manual... I remember seeing something about the radio backlight setting.

Really??? Yes, that is exactly what is suppose to happen, and if that is the case on yours that is exactly what we are looking for! However, I have tried to push mine past the max, but that it is, no go, no click, no brighter. How much force did you have to use? I might try it again later, I wonder if this is something that was changed?

Confirmed on my SR5 as well, no click. Does the switch 'look' the same on the LE & TE as it does on the SR5? If so might just be able to do a switch swap. Mine dimmer went bad in my last suv, it was like $45 for the new switch assembly.
on my 2010 Trail, I can "click" the dimmer switch (up all the way), the instrument panel lights are same brightness with headlights on as they are with headlights off. BUT, THE RADIO DISPLAY AND THE INFO CENTER DISPLAY (mpg, etc) ARE NOT AS BRIGHT AS WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE OFF.
there is nothing in the owner's manual that describes any settings that can be changed to fix this ISSUE.
those, that have said that the lights are as bright with the headlights on when you click up that dimmer switch, can you verify the radio and info center is also at FULL brightness?

Additionally, doesn't the SR5 have a different type of gauge than the TE/LE? The TE/LE gauges are called "Optitron" or something like that, with the fancy LCD display in the middle of the tach, fancy backlighting, etc. The SR5s, however, only have regular, non-Optitron gauges, right?
Still doesn't really explain why Toyota would leave such a basic feature out of one model and put it into other models. Why make two different dials and circuits when you could make just one?

Do you have the Nav in your TE?
Yes, different gauges but the same stereo head unit (non-nav). I agree, weird why they would make 2 different ones.
As you can see I asked Jesse above if he has the nav because if he does not well then, we have two different stories on 10' TE's....
