Heater core hoses

I dropped mine at the shop while I was on vacation. Had the brakes done, belt and radiator hoses. The new hoses are SO much softer than what came off. Was wondering about the heater core hoses. Has anybody had one fail yet? I'm at ten years old now and wondering how much further I should let them stay on.

Thought 10 years was a nice number. There are plenty of people that carry new hoses and a refill for emergencies. Didn't think I wanted to do that. Thought just replacing the hoses and fresh coolant would be enough for me.

my hose is 14 years old. so far its still looking good. as rubber ages, it hardens. its a good call though, one less thing to worry about.

Funny, just recently been listening to Scotty Kilmer's q & A on youtube and he mentions this at205 reseal for conditioning stuff;

And if you look at the first question, the respond-er has Scotty mentioned in his answer. Point being this may extend the service life for the hoses too, disclaimer: attempt at owner's discretion.

This topic concerns cooling system hoses, the product you posted AT 205 is an additive for seals, leaks etc. in lubrication and hydraulic systems, I can't see how it would work in cooling systems and I wouldn't recommend trying it in the cooling system since it's not listed as such for the product.

The intent is for conditioning on the outside of the hoses. I think Scotty Kilmer mentions to put it in a spray bottle and use it for some rubber parts, probably vacuum hoses, possibly tires, but yeah, you wouldn't put it in the coolant. I'm sure you could just brush it on too. My apology if I haven't got the details correct, I just remember saving that Amazon page for future reference. It was probably around episode #183 or less, if you wanted to find an exact reference.

But I have been listening to all his Car Talk - LIVE Question & Answer's, down to #173, so I can't remember where he reference it, but highly recommended, this man has a lot of knowledge and experience and is fairly entertaining too.

Yes, Scotty is quite...energetic? Enthusiastic? Well, both really. Kind of reminds me of Brent Spiner. In any case, good info for sure. His episode on "lifetime" ATF is well worth your time (the quotation marks are a clue as to what he thinks about such fluids).
