Hella 4000 wiring

so I'm hooking up my Hella 4000's. Halogen version. I bought the wiring kit and thought I hooked everything up well. Brown wire off the lights to the body, red to power, long brown to the body and nothing? I think maybe my grounds need ground down to get to pure bare metal.

Anyone have some pics where they attached everything on theirs? Also trying to figure out how to hook up a different switch but first I need the switch it came with to work before I do that.

I had a Hella harness that was put together wrong. They put the wrong colors in the wrong holes in the relay plug. Something to think about.

You do know you need a main power source for the lights, usually the battery positive, and one for the relay trigger coil, often the parking light circuit.

Can you sketch your wiring diagram? It's not so much where you attach the wires as how they work together.

I had a Hella harness that was put together wrong. They put the wrong colors in the wrong holes in the relay plug. Something to think about.

You do know you need a main power source for the lights, usually the battery positive, and one for the relay trigger coil, often the parking light circuit.

Can you sketch your wiring diagram? It's not so much where you attach the wires as how they work together.

ah... didn't see the relay wire. That's probably it. Is it that really long green one?

Off topic a bit, but where are you mounting those 4000’s? They’re an all metal housing and super heavy from what I remember when I had some about 13 or 14 years ago. Unless it’s to a very rigid mount like an offroad bumper or a tube style light bar that mounts to the frame, they’re going to wobble like crazy.

Going on my ARB Bull Bumper. Plenty strong for them. And yes, they're beasts!

so this green wire, does it go to my headlights then? since mine is a 2000 and has daytime lights they're always on. Anyone know?

You need to show me your wiring diagram for the lights and then I can tell you where to connect the wires on the truck.

Ok. First, that is exactly the harness I had from Hella that was defective and gave me a vampire draw that took me months to figure out. So first verify that the brown wire is connected to Terminal 85 and the green wire to Terminal 86 on the relay. If those are correct, it doesn't matter if the red and black are reversed.

Assuming your harness is correct, yes, the green wire is the connection to relay trigger power. I recommend connecting it to the hot wire to the parking lights. This let's you use the aux lights alone, or with highs or lows but turns them off in the daytime or when parked.

I am not at my computer so I can't check what color that wire is, but it is not the white-black one at any parking light. I'll add the correct color later. Then brown is ground, red is battery positive and black is also ground.

The red wire needs a fuse and I don't see any. I hope there is one somewhere. Is there?

Thanks. I found the green wire and will connect it when I get back on it. I did touch the green on the harness to the positive and the lights turned on. They wouldn't turn on without the engine running. I guess they draw too much juice!
