Hella Supertone Twin Horns

Heh.

I think I lucked out on the FF75 lights. I had a bid for $50 on one auction that I lost. Then I found another guy selling them with a buy it now of $37.99 with free shipping. Retail is $80-$90. The seller is "offroad911" and he seems to have more than a few left. $38 shipped is a killer deal.

I looked all over the net and the horns are usually pretty expensive. $65 was the cheapest I've seen so $62 shipped was a good deal.

Normally, I don't use my horn unless there's a bonehead so when I use it, I want to be heard. I've heard of these horns a few years ago from some BMW guys but I never did the upgrade.

I haven't mounted them yet. They're sitting next to my desk at home waiting for warmer days so I can install them. The horns were fairly easy and it was warm at night so I did them first. I'll have pics up when I install them.

I think he is mounting them to his T&H bull bar. At least I'm hoping that is the case because I want to copy him.

I tried out these horns and damn they're loud. Easily twice as loud as stock horns from inside the car. You can see them thru the grille too which I'm still deciding whether I like or not. My initial reaction was to repaint the protective grilles black but being lazy, I just installed them .

You guys talking about the lights are gonna have to look at the other thread . (hint: I have some pics but they're disappointing)

I'm just thankful that the stock horns on the 4Runner aren't the typical wimpy sounding horns that are so typical on Japanese vehicles.

The stock horns suit me just fine. I've thought about installing a new set of twin-horn air horns that I have sitting in my closet, but they are very European sounding, which doesn't really fit an SUV like the 4Runner. They sound like they belong on a Ferrari, but much louder!

It was dark and I was working on the lights for my bull bar and the hood wasn't all the way down but you can see them thru the grille. That's why I was thinking of painting them black.

Hella supertone help (for 97)

I've got a 97. I cut both plugs to the OEM horns. There are 2 wires on the driver's side horn while only 1 wire on the pass side.

On the pass side i connected one prong to the existing wire and grounded the other prong to the bolt which mounts the horn.

On the driv side i don't know what to do with the two wires. I tried all combinations and only got the pass side horn to weakly beep.

Any suggestions? Help? Do i need to use the Hella Relay instead of the OEM? What are the two wires? Help.

I've just bought some of these but a little confused on how to install them....can you offer some advice....

If I remember correctly, the OEM horn harness can be directly connected to the terminals on the Hella horns. No need to cut the connectors off. Power goes to all terminals on the horns. Then run a separate ground wire from the nut on each horn to a ground point on the vehicle. Since the bracket is painted, it may not be proving a proper ground by simply bolting it to the vehicle frame.

It might be just a little bit lower than the stock horns but it's about twice as loud. We did a side by side test of stock horns and my Hella's.

What size ground wire are you guys using for these horns?

I think I used a 14 or 16 gauge wire.
