Hi there from sunny Phoenix, AZ

Purchased a 1987 4runner a few months ago. Had brake issues which turned out to be a FUBARED wheel bearing. Previous owner cross threaded the spindle nut.... planning to turn this into a mild offroad/road trip/camping vehicle.

Anyway here is BoB (Beast of Burden):

First trip after the wheelbearing fix. 300mile roundtrip!

Future Mods: rear locker and 2rz swap (megasquirt + turbo). In the long run a long travel IFS setup.

One major issue I have is to find the necessary oil pan for the swap. Does anyone have ANY leads on a 2rz oil pan that will fit into my IFS 4runner?

Thanks for stopping by

Felix

Thats a good lookin 4Runner you have. What part of Phx are you in? I'm in Chandler and go wheelin fairly often, so if you ever want to go, hit me up.

I have a Blazeland Long Travel on my 1st Gen 4Runner, if you're interested in checking it out sometime let m know.

As for your oil pan conundrum, have you check out these write ups:

I'd love to try out that kit! I've been looking at it myself lately, just gotta wait a while for $$$. [edit]:@%1;Just looked at your profile, and your blazeland youtube video actually inspired me to go that route.
Oh and I am pretty central, Camelback and 24th street

Yeah i've seen those pages, a friend might attempt to make me a pan. I was just hoping there would be one available that isn't $600.

I'll hit you up once I am free again on weekends. Would love to break in this rig

Those shifter boots look nice. The first owner made or had made a one piece boot that covers both shifters.

The truck shakes pretty good around 60+ mph.
What are the usual culprits? I've never worked on a truck suspension before.

I'd first check U joints for slop or even pop the drive line off and feel if the joints don't want to move smoothly or is sloppy, you could also jack up the front end to check ball joints and tie rod play. With the steering locked try turning the wheel back and forth at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions for tie rod play and same thing at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock to check ball joints. Could also be off balance tires.

When mine starts doing that its typically a sign of something worn out - tie rod ends, ball joints, idler arm. I typically replace all of those once a year; with the long travel and the abuse I put my truck through, those parts wear out much quicker. I got them all from Autozone, so free lifetime replacement :)

I am suspecting tires.

I went through it when I did the wheelbearings. Nothing "felt" sloppy.
The driveshaft has quite abit of slop. but not in the ujoint. Its in the diff

autozone... good idea!

Went through the drivetrain.... rear driveshaft had one bolt missing and two were loose (about to fall off). Replaced all of them with some volvo driveshaft bolts.
Adjusted the valves (so quiet now!), new clutch and slave.
Going to start replacing all the front suspension components.

Previous Owner failed hard on this truck. Hard to imagine that he builds 10k boat engines.

Front Stabilizer

What are some of the better front stabilizers?

Is the OME worth the $80 or is a rancho/prosport just as good?

Rancho builds a quality product. doubt you'd feel the difference between a $40 and $80 stabilizer. Being brand new, regardless of brand, will make the most difference.

But you may have gotten one already.
