I just replaced my xreas. I don't believe they were leaking and the truck still rode fine. I figured with 140K on the clock they weren't long for the world and I wanted a bit of lift so I can upgrade tires. They're laying in the garage pile if you're interested.
Also...keep an eye on Craigslist. That's where I picked up my tacoma takeoff stuff (springs/shocks) that I installed in place of the Xreas.

I'm in a similar situation. I went on ebay and found the full suspension (minus rear coils) off a new 5th gen with less than 90 miles on it from a dealership for 125$, shipping 45$. I'll be installing them this weekend hopefully. I found this to be about the most economical route to get like new parts while retaining Toyota quality. If you can afford ~170$, I'd say give ebay a shot.

I've got stock 2016 shocks with about 4k on them before I switched them out taking up space in my garage that are all yours if you pay shipping, not sure what that comes out too shoot me a pm if you want them
