Help !- Creaking sound from Park to Drive or P to R

Help . Hey guys . Hope all of you are doing well . I have a problem with my 06 4runner . It was bought late last year and has 6k miles on it - just 6,000 .
I like the suv overall , but lately I have noticed that when I shift from Park to Drive or from Park to Reverse , there is a LOUD CREAKING NOISE . I am quite concerned about this and was wondering if anyone else has this experience ?
Is it normal ? Its kinda weird when shifting - its like a THUD / Creaking sound that really startles me . I paid a lot for this suv and this realllllyyyyy scares me !!

Anyone know about this ?

Mine does the same thing. It's the brakes not holding the rotors completely still when gears engage. I've heard this same noise on other SUVs also.

Mine does it too especially in the morning when the RPMs are up. Its nothing to worry about.

thankx for the responses guys . sooo , it is normal ? it really freaks me out to hear a thud / creaking sound when shifting - isn't the suv too new for this ? its loud man , i mean taking your friends out for a drive and hearing this sound when shifting into drive ? on a brand new suv ?

I mean you guys have real nice pics of your 4runners in your profile - isn't it odd that such nice looking vehicles will have this annoying sound that would make one thing they are driving a 1975 rusted beat up truck with a rusty transmission ? i had other cars before - a camry , an altima both automatic and a 5spd 91 supra ,

this is my 1st NEW vehicle and never have i heard this revolting thud /noise upong engaging the gears !!

Not sure if it is normal, but mine does it as well. It seems a lot worse when I start it in the morning.

Mine has done this since new, only happens the first time I back out of the garage in the morning and then put it into D, otherwise it's quiet.

FRom what I am gathering , it seems as if it may be a common problem . I am just concerned that it may balloon into a larger problem in the long term .

It doesnt sound right ..literally

I'm not an expert on 4Runners, but in seven years mine has never made an odd sound. Well, excluding when the nuts that hold on the rear O2 sensor rusted off and exhaust was pouring out around it. That was a bit throaty.

Well if it's the sound that we think you're talking about then it's completely normal. I used to work for Carmax during high school and always noticed this sound from SUVs that had front and rear disk brakes especially the jeep grand cherokees. You'll notice it more in the morning or when the truck has been off for a while when the engine idles higher. Try holding the brake down harder, maybe you're not depressing the brake with enough force to keep it from moving a little.

I've learned to hold the brake pedal a little harder with the 4Runner. The noise is the brakes partially holding, and I've noticed it can happen any time. I think it's more common when shifting just because you're used to holding the brake for only a brief period and not very hard.

therres also a jolt sometimes when the car is put in gear - its like a foward jerk and then a thud or sometimes a creaking sound.
I tried pressinng the brake harder , but when it shifts theres still that jolt
