HELP:Hardwire Radar Detector

I have an escort passport 8500 X50 and I would like to hardwire it rather than having that annoying coiled cord hanging down the front of the stereo. I still want it in the middle of the windshield rather than screwed to the headboard, and did some research on it. I purchased the escort direct smart wire that plugs into your fusebox on the drivers side. I also have an "add-a-circuit" adapter that lets you connect the fuse from the detector to an already existing fuse in the box so you can piggy-back it.

Has anybody done this before? I was planning/hoping to guide the wire beneath my dash so it is out of sight, and have the cord come through one of the front defroster slots and neatly clip into the detector. Will this work, and is it even possible?

Any help anyone can share would be great. I have the parts, I just need an attack plan now. Thanks.

I hardwired my 9500xi to the fuse box under the steering wheel. I tapped into the 12v cig lighter fuse. Ran it up the side of the door in the rubber, then behind the a-pillar by removing it, they up under the headliner and mounted it right to the right of the rear view mirror. Its the best place to put it because you cant see it from the outside, and it gets the best visibility from there.

Was it tough to remove the interior of the A-Pillar to run the wire? I am very nervous to be removing things and what not, I've only had the ride for 2 days and dont want to F*** it up. Is there a DIY thread for this kind of install? I would love to have it up by the mirror but I would not know how to run the wire across the top under the headliner so its neat and out of sight. Thanks.

Yes its VERY easy. Remove the two caps from the handle, there are 2 phillips screws. Take them out and slide the A-pillar out. You can just shove the wire under the headliner with your fingers.

You wont **** it up I promise.

Forgot, you have to remove the driver side kick panel. There are a couple of bolts then just snap it off.

Thanks. Ok, I went out and took a peak at the bolts, and I see them; I didnt unscrewed them, but once they are off and the handle releases does the entire panel come off or just the handle?

One more question, how did you run the wire across the headliner (I can get the wire out of the fusebox, up the A pillar, but how did you get it across to the review mirror. Did you simply push the wire between the interior and the windshield?) It looks like it could be forced in between the two, but I don't know how secure the cord will be up there. I dont want it falling down while im driving!

I appreciate the help. I want this to be done right, as it is the first mod (of many to come) and I dont want to half-ass anything or do it wrong. Thanks.

Once you remove the bolts, the entire a pillar slides out. The wire wont fall down while driving. As I said, just shove it up there.

Alright, my smart cord came, and i have the add-a-circuit adapter. I have looked at the fuse panel and I am going to piggy back the 12V fuse. I know that the A pillar is removed by taking out the two screws in the handle, but once the wire is run from the rear-view mirror, across the header, down the A pillar, how go I get the wire into the fuse box without having it stick out the side of my dash in the door opening. I see two screws, one on each side of the front of the kick-board( I think thats the name), But I do not see anything else. If anyone was done this hardwire please help with the last step on how to get the wire into the fuse box without it being seen. Thanks.

I did one of these

That's how we all start out most mods. Then half way through the attitude changes to "Ahh-- EFF it.. Let's just get this done so it works"
