First things first, I would crawl under your truck to make sure your truck is infact pre wired for the factory style lamps. I know most are prewired, but yours being a 2.7L "base" model 4Runner means it is possible the wiring isn't there. You're looking for a small harness taped to the side of your turn signal harness. only two wires go into the fog light harness.

IF you do have the wiring there,

I recommend doing an OEM set up. With the correct bulbs, they put out a nice amount of light. It will run you anywhere from 50-150 bucks for a used set on here (a new set is outrageous!) but the installation is easy. Just bolt in the brackets, add a fog relay and then locate a stalk with the fog switch on it (can be had for aroun 25 bucks), or you can search around on here and find the thread where a member seperated the wiring so they could just use a $5 rocker switch and save themselves some money.

If you don't have the wiring,

opt for a nice set of PIAA or Hella lights. The installation (especially on PIAA's) is extremely simple. They are a little pricier, but you get what you pay for.

I have both factory fogs (with High Output bulbs), a set of PIAA fog lamps and PIAA headlight bulbs and I couldn't be happier. I only want to add some distance driving lamps eventually. Probably more PIAA's or a LED bar.

I hope this helps, and isn't too confusing!

bumping an old thread...

Well i am installing some oem fog lights, i have everything, lights, relay, and stalk....

question is how do the lights actually mount in the bumper? i already bolted them in place but they dont sit right... top tab i slided it onto the metal bumper in the notch. the middle one i sandwhiched between the bolt and the metal portion the of the bumper. the bottom part that meets the blinker has no bolts i have to use my own.

Did i do this right now i just have to adjust to get them to sit nice in the knockout hole?

and my plug for the fog light has a different connector so im going to ditch them and wire it myself... anyone else have this issue?
