Help me buy a car..

I can understand OP's situation. Depends where you live, but in northern Colorado 4th gen 4runners with roughly 100K miles last about 3 days on the market, and go for whatever someone is asking. I paid $15K for mine ('06, 120K miles, Sport) from a dealer, and there was another guy sitting in the waiting room ready to drive it away if I had not said "deal". No room to negotiate at all.

I think you have to evaluate your motives and priorities. If it's important to you to be able to tell your friends and the internet how you did some hard-nosed negotiating and got a really great deal, then more power to you. On the other hand, if you just want to get past the car buying stage and into the car using stage, find what you want, pay the money, and go have fun. For me, life is too short to drag out the process.

Last thing: Cars are not an investment (at least not for most people), so don't worry about buying one at a price such that you could "get your money out of it" again. A 4Runner is combination tool and entertainment - you have to look at it that way.

^^^

This is how new and used tacos are around here...no wiggle room, dealer straight told my buddy..."this is the price, if you don't buy it the next guy in will"

Crazy to think demand is that high for these things...good to know though

where is the suv from? 4x4?

Albany area New York. 4X4, 7 passengers 3 rows seats. Own it since 06.

Well said sir!
Get what you want and move on, enjoy life. A good used 4runner with low miles is hard to come by.

The resale value on these is crazy. Most dealer trade in values are about half of the book value, but not on the 4 runners. Not much difference between dealer trade in value and book resale value. At least that's the way it is on my 06 sport 4WD. Even fair condition is quite high. They are nice vehicles. Solid on the road, and plenty of power with the V8.

she didnt sell the car boys... hahaha.. I had my buddy text her..

ok this is why.. she bases the value of the car off of KBB loan value.. saying it says 19,300.. .

never heard that in my life...

KBB is 15,500
NADA 17,000 retail
CARS.COM BB 14,575
Edmunds 14,553

I dont understand where she is getting this Loan value to justify asking 19,800

pssst...I have a secret for you

*casually looks side to side and lowers voice*

Those are averages...some cars sell for much more, some for much less. The people you are dealing with are likely reading you like a book...someone who desperately wants a 4Runner...put on a poker face, relax a bit and have a nice day.

thanks for you input yukon... I assumed you guys would enjoy the story.. Since there was some doubt in the thread as to whether or not it was sold.. Hence why I had a buddy reach out.. This isn't the exact one I want.. So its not a huge deal to me.. I would of pursued it differently if it was..

Look... Seller has a nice car, not perfect, with the cheapest tires on the planet.. wants astronomical amount for it.. No sale.. Im sure its happened 1000s of times..

Ive never seen a car price being based on KBB Loan value by a private seller in my life.. Maybe someone has come across this scenario before... but I don't even think its accurate... it says msrp 32,866 and then loan value 19,988..

and btw for you to be accurate.. on "averages".. find me a guy who paid 10k for an 07 w 80k miles to average out someone paying 19,800..

I'll wait...

Lol...you really don't get it...the car never SOLD for 19,800 so it wouldn't be included in the calculation of average sale prices.

Plenty of people list their homes and cars for prices well above average sale prices...they are effectively not really for sale (to the informed buyer that is).

Why list something for sale at a crazy price? I'd expect the people who show up inquiring are rubes or people who don't mind wasting their time.

.

She's basing it on what she paid and what she owes. Maybe she paid too much, maybe not. Why do you care?

What's the difference if the pink unicorns that dance around her head are telling her to sell it for a particular price?

Price is too high...move along. Rinse and repeat.

A post ago you justified the asking price of 19,800. So maybe you don't get it.

I'm not here to argue semantics with you. But I agree someone asking 20k for a 4Runner with 90k miles is essentially not for sale.

With what everyone else said. . she originally had it listed for an astronomically $19,800.00. Because:
A. She greatly overpaid for it
B. Had no downpayment
C. Had/has bad credit
D. Financed through the dealership.

Personally if this is how she is going to continue to try selling vehicles, I would leave her be and tell her good luck with her recent actions. . .and maybe flag her ad for lying(since according to her its sold). She is asking dollars on the penny on her vehicle.

To give perspective bought mine in 2012(seems forever ago) 72k miles and $17,800 OTD. (some b.s. warranty/few oil changes included)

A post ago you justified the asking price

You use the word 'justify' a lot in your posts...I don't think it means what you think it means.

Good luck Don Quixote in your quest to force everyone to sell for EXACTLY the KBB price! It's only just after all.
