help me please I have a starter problem I can't figure out

Ok guys help me please I had my starter went out in my 87 t4r so I changed it out and it won't start and that's where the trouble began... I changed all connecting wires to and from the battery to the starter. I tested the battery,starter(the new one) and the starter relay. As far as I can see I have covered everything is there something I missed cause it still won't start if I start it by key it makes a tick sound really fast and nonstop. If I take a wire from the starter straight to the battery it ticks twice and then just start to wine... please help.

Check your battery ground, if the ground is bad you may not be getting enough amperage to turn the engine.

Have you verified that your engine will turn over? If the ground is good, and power applied directly to the starter won't turn it, it could be seized.

Thanks so much for replying the ground was the problem I don't no why I didn't think of that. its runnin great now me and my buddy changed both grounds just to be sure and I was pretty worried cause you said it may be siezed and I just did a head gasket about a month ago the oil is ok it needs to be changed though... wen I read it I ran out and pulled the dip stick out as fast as I could.
