HELP!!! Misfire issues

Ok, please don't flog me as I searched for two days on what to do on my rig. Tried lots of things and still not right.

History is: 2000 model with 190k and I wanted to have the valve cover gaskets changed because it was leaking pretty bad. I had an ASE certified friend change them for me since I was covered up with my job. I have not had a single problem before doing the gaskets and now......

I'm getting a misfire in cylinder #1. I have tried new plugs (properly gapped), wires and coil boots. None of which helped out. I have tried putting fuel injector cleaner thru it with no help. I've tried swapping out the #1 coil with the #3 and still get a misfire in cylinder #1. The rig starts and runs fine when I first start it in the morning. I then go to the store and get a drink or bfast and when I start it back up, it will be missing. Sometimes the engine light is on and sometimes it's not. If it's not missing then I can drive it for a full hour and it won't have any issues but once I shut it off, it starts missing all over again.

Please help me. Possible fuel injector?

I think it's just a coincidence you had valve cover gaskets changed. I say fuel injector(s) are bad / going bad.

The symptom that it runs fine when cold and then the problem becomes apparent when it warms up. This same problem happened to me. If you want to trouble shoot further you could have some of the injectors swapped around. This way you will know for sure.

Thanks for the comment. I am getting p0301 and I just ordered a new injector today. Hope that's it. I am feeling that it might be coincidence too. Im also kinda thinking he didn't get everything put back together right as well. Either way, The rig needed plugs, wires and coil boots anyways.

Well. Did you fix it yet? Mines doing this also, ohm'd the #1 injector and I can't get any reading.

Any advice on reman vs genuine injector? $100 difference in price :/

OEM if you can afford it. Remans are a hit or miss, with replacing injectors not on the top of the list for fun repair jobs on the 4runner try and get it right the first time.

Hey, yes it's fixed. I bought a remanufactured one from aaoutoparts.com. It was only 32.00 and it has been running. Perfect since then. Reman is hit and miss but it worked in my favor this time

well it sounds like my theory was spot on.

it should be spot on since I spent 1k at the dealership. other things were needed, not just a faulty injector

you got out cheap :)
