Help - need a good surf rack solution on my 5th Gen

Hey guys - so I put boards up on top when we do surf trips. The problem is, with the 4Runner, the cross bars sit pretty far back on the vehicle. The problem is that on the rear ones, I can't thread normal straps through the door openings like I could with my old cars.

I just strapped the boards to the rack and threaded the strap under the roof rails. I thought I was a genius until I hit 50mph. They the vibration started and it sounded like a swarm of bees was chasing me! Literally became so annoying and I couldn't figure out a good solution. Any of you guys running surfboards on your roof easily?

put a single twist in your tie-down strap. it's the flow of air moving across/under it that's creating the buzzing/harmonics. if you put a twist in the strap it'll put a stop to that.

That's S.O.P for most roof racks.

Feed the excess strap through the rear hatch window, then close the window on the strap.

This is what i do...i even fit my 9'6" log, no problem.
