Help...need running board info please!

We have a new 4-Runner Limited and want to put on running boards. Our dealer says they are not available from Toyota. What are you guys (who have running boards) doing? Thanks

Not knowing where you are located, your dealer may be right. Contact South East Toyota, (Southern Distributer) they will sell and ship. Sorry, I do not have the contact info off hand right now, but a quick goggle search should give you all the info you need.
 
I bought these made by Owens Products.

ABS TranSender Running Board Toyota 4Runner 2010-2011 (Not Trail Model)

My dealer ordered and installed (I don't know where from) with my sale. I also ordered the optional chrome strip, as I thought it complemented the strip on the bottom door edge.

Wife is short, so needed for her. I also use them to get in and out, very useful, and I think they look good. I learned on my previous SUV (a Pathfinder) that over time I wore out the seat bolster on my side by sliding out all the time. Now I use the step and hang on to the steering wheel both in and out. For anyone with kids, I'd think this is a must.

I'm happy with the purchase...

The trim piece under the doors is different. On the Trail, it's only wide enough to cover the pinch weld and provide an aesthetically appealing curve to fill in the gap. On the other models, it's wider, shaped differently, and includes the chrome strip. The running boards, if they were installed on a Trail Edition, would have a large gap because of the difference.
 
This may be a really stupid question, but do running boards generally require professional install (i.e. welding, etc)?

If you're looking for running boards to fit the TE, one option is to use the nerf bars that came with the 4th Gen 4Runner Sport models (06+ ?). There was a therad a while back where someone found that it was a direct fit for the '10 TE. IIRC, It wouldn't fit the SR5 or Limited models (without modified brackets) due to the lower side molding of these models. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Custom designed boards may, but most of those with links posted bolt on using existing mounting points. The little flap in front of the rear wheels may need to be removed.

I didn't realize that they'd have to be different than the ones that fit the Limited or the SR5. I'll look for that thread about the bars that came with the 4th gen sport edition ans see what other available options I'm able to find.

I wasn't able to find the thread that specified that the 4th Generation Sport running boards are a direct fit for the '10 Trail. Does anyone have anymore information or can you confirm it to be the case?

I just traded in my 2008 Toyota Urban Runner for a 2011 T4R Limited - but my limited didn't come with running boards or mud guards - when I called the dealer they said they didn't sell either item for the 2011 4runner - any suggestions?
 
Running boards must still be a bit regionalized, if the NJ dealers are saying that they don't sell then for 2011s. Just about every 5th gen on my local dealer's lot is equipped with running boards.
 
We just had the factory running boards put on by our dealer, they didn't come with the truck when we bought it but had them work it into the price. They look great, they match the truck with the chrome stip going down the side. We needed them for our son and my parents to get in and out of the truck. Very happy :D
