help - weather stripping

Yes! Thank you for your response. I did do this already however, getting the actual old stripping out is difficult because it has a clip that i can't seem to get loose. Would it hurt just to break the whole thing and take it out? I have the replacement and believe that once I can get that old piece out, exchanging it for the new one would be easy

Just rip it out! My driver side came out pretty easy. The passenger side was a bit tougher. I Just yanked that sucker right out. It's just plastic and the metal tabs shouldn't break, unless their rusted.

Old thread but I have a question about the top/upper rubber gasket on the lift gate of my 2004. I haven't seen any posts about that one. (I'm replacing both.)

I have a new gasket but it didn't come with any sealer. When I took the old one off there was gray/black stuff on the metal edge. It was soft and I was able to just wipe it off with a rag. In the crevices of the old one I find more of that stuff, but way up in the crevice, so no longer touching the edge.

Is there supposed to be any kind of soft/tacky sealant on the inside edges?

Thanks
Rich
