Help with factory stereo and amp

I have a 2000 SR5 that the PO put a cheap JVC single DIN stereo unit in. He just left the space underneath blank and you can see behind all the wiring, etc.
I have a factory unit out of a 98 Limited that I tried to put in the 2000 SR5. The plugs all fit but when I turn the key on I get a REALLY LOUD humming from the speakers. The unit won't power on at all. Can anyone tell me what the problem is here? I tried searching but wasn't able to find if the two years of stereo are compatible.

The way the plugs were, the only way to install the 98 unit was to plug the receiver into itself and then plug the amp into the factory wiring. This is the only way that the plugs fit. Perhaps the 2000 model didn't use a factory amp?

Heres a pic of my stock setup i pulled from my 2000. Deff had an amp. Amp plugs into h.u. 2 addl plugs from vehicle harness to amp and 1 to h.u.

Thanks, that will really help. My HU has a large wire/plug that fits into the head unit only. It won't fit the amp, looks like it won't work.
