Hey all,

I am Looking to purchase a 2012 4runner trail edition with 43,000 miles. Is there anything in particular I should look for in terms of problems? I saw the truck and its in good shape, drives well too. It seems to be loaded with a sunroof, crawl control, power pass seat, navigation, etc. Is there a way to tell if it has KDSS or not? Price is $28,000 which is lower than the KBB book value so its seems like a good deal. Any input or advice is appreciated.

Thanks! Looking forward to becoming a part of the club!

You already found out one way to tell if there is KDSS when you replied to a 2.5 year old thread right before posting this. I would trust that method.
Yep I did. Had to make that post so I could start a thread. Thanks for letting me know I made that post a few minutes ago.

I wonder why they make you have a certain amount of posts before starting a thread...

Like I said, I would trust the method that you already discovered.

Geez dude. Try answering the same question 1,000 times and you would feel the same way. Nobody's ever asked "Is there anything to look for when buying a used 4Runner" before nor have they asked "How do I tell if it has KDSS?" You just had to get the number of posts so you can ask your special question right?

Thanks for the feedback. Looking forward to hearing if there is anything else i should look for based on experience from current owners!

Thanks in advance.

Bickering back an forth here would have been a much easier way to get my 15 post to start my special thread, wish I would have known that before. Thanks for the help guys.

Outside of typical used car things, nothing special. I personlly like the '14+ a little better, but that's just a personal preference. At 43k miles, as long as the previous owner actually had it serviced and didn't go crazy off road, the only things that should be even close to needing to be replaced are tires.

I had to have the drive-shaft replaced on mine. It was clunking, or pushing the vehicle at a stop. It's been talked about, so search for more. I barely got it in under warranty.

Besides that and hazy headlight covers which were also replaced, I had the driver's side seat back replaced and a blown speaker too.

People didn't your mother ever tell you if you don't have anything good to say don't say anything at all. Some people on here treat new people with questions like jerks.

If the 12 has kdss it is a absolute steal at the price. Good luck!

So I found out more about the truck... It was a leased truck and returned to the dealer after the lease was up. The Toyota dealer then sold the truck to another dealer (acura) who I am now dealing with. Is this a flag? Is there a reason why Toyota would certify the truck and then sell it Certified Pre-owned off their lot? Might be crazy thinking but I am just trying to do as much research and reasoning I can before spending $30k.

Thanks!

^ What Stiffy said. Dude, no one knows the answer to your question, except the dealer. For everyone else it's speculation.

If it's STILL CPO, it's warranteed by Toyota, regardless. Buy it already.

If you keep jerking around, your next post will be whining about losing out on a good deal.

Appreciate all the feedback. I am a longtime landcruiser guy and this will be my first 4runner so i am skeptical. In the world of the landcruiser, there is the cruiser and then there are trucks that are not the landcruiser! Hopefully I will be able to secure the truck by the weekend.

I agree with this guy and Stiffy! Whoever that is

You can also spot the (reservoir?) on the side of the vehicle very easily. There are tons of posts on how to recognize that. I do that when looking before I get a salesman involved and have a key to the car.
