Help with Seafoam on V8

Can someone please post a pic of the correct hose to use for Seafoam on a V8? I have done all the searches and read all posts but have not come across a pic for the correct hose on 4th Gen V8. I want t be sure I dont mess anything up.

I've used Seafoam for the gas tank, but haven't used it for any of it's other purposes. Like you, I did a search for that and didn't find any pictures. There were however several good write ups on it, and if I had a bit more knowledge, they were very helpful in completing a full Seafoam application.

175 hits and not one person has done this? I cant believe it. Theres a guy asking about a "metal bar" on the front of a 4runner and he has gotten 7 replies. He doesnt even know the what a bull bar is.

Im wondering if this forum is only good for "cosmetic" information. I hope I dont sound too cynical but this isnt the first time I have posted without response.

I guess I will try yota tech.

If you're that impatient and worked up over it - do a search - it is there. Seafoam application is not rocket science and it is not different in a 4Runner than anything else. You can also watch about 100 videos about it on youtube if you are so curious.

maybe so but I know that the application is a little different on the V8 due to the diffrences in the Brakings system. I have done the searches but there are NO pics of the V8 hose to be used.

I guess my point is if the thread isnt about lifts or H.I.D. its pretty hard to get any information.

bowhunter, I went ahead a did a "seafoam" search and found the link that encouraged me to put some into my fuel tank. However, I'm not confident myself in doing this without some instruction for the throttle body/intake manifold too, so I posted a question on the below thread.

I got seafoam deep creep which you can spray into the intake manifold. Just remove the plastic top and take off the intake tube. I sprayed liberally inside the manifold and let it sit for a while. After that I drove around to get rid of the carbon... Which will come out as white smoke

Thanks Ruffian. I am planning on doing it this weekend. Did you notice any immediate improvement in smoothness, acceleration? My main reason for doing the seafoam is to help with MPG.

bowhunter53, how many miles do you have on your 4R? on my TL forum, most people do seafoam after 30K miles or so. they recommended do put in new spark plugs at the same time while performing seafoam. not sure if that will apply to 4R. but most TL folks did seafoam say they can feel and notice the difference. specially when vtec kicks in, it feels like a different car. hope that will help.

I have introduced seafoam through the 1/8 vacuum lines on the right side of the engine where the two vacuum switching valves are connected in series next to the intake runners. I just connect a long vacuum line to any of the ports that have vacuum and then submerse the other end in a can of seafoam and the engine just drinks the stuff

Please note that the introduction of seafoam directly into the intake will cause a temporary cylinder misfire which will cause the check engine light to flash rapidly for about 10-15 seconds. So introduce the seafoam in small doses to minimize this situation.

i don't think it's either one. there should be vaccum hose near the intake/throttle body, which is covered by the engine cover. i think you have to take out the engine cover then you can see them.

:iagree: You have to get it in right behind the throttle body. If you use any other place it's unlikely you'll achieve even distribution amongst the cylinders. I suspect there'll be some good vacuum port under the 4.7L cover.

I don't know what the sea-foam procedure is but be careful with putting liquid into the intake system. Hydostatic lock bends expensive stuff.

I know sea-foam is good stuff and a reputable company. If they say put directly into the intake it's probably ok just follow the instructions to the letter... Just my unsolicited 2 cents:biggrin2:

It's fine, you can introduce "seafoam", water (yeah, I said water), B-12, or any other kind of varnish remover through a vaccum hose using the sip method. All this is doing is breaking down varnish and any carbon build up in the intake, valve train, and cylinders, or fuel system if you put it in your gas. (Don't put water in your gas...)

I've done it on my exporer several times, the water is a "steam" clean, it worked but not quite as well as a varnish remover.

I'd say doign this as a regular part of your oil change routine is preventitive maint for potential build up down the road. I'm not a mechanic by trade but I know my way around most aspects of a car or truck.
