Help with tire size for Icon Stage-2 Lift

Hey guys, new here but wanted your input on what size tires I should get with my Icon Stage-2 lift on a 2014 TE. I ordered 285/70/17 but have seen they could rub, wanted to see if anyone else came across this issue. Should I opt for 275/70/17?

Mainly will be using my 4Runner for back country roads when Im hunting but want to get into trails too (hoping to go out trailing if anyone is in my area, no experience). Dont know if tire size makes that big of a difference.

Look at the tire fitment guide in my signature man. Lift type does not matter to the tires.

Thanks guys. 1engineer, do you know how much "modification" will be needed for the 285s? I know the backspacing on the rim is 4.5" for the set I got. Icon recommended going with 33" tires with no more than 5" backspacing.

285 70 17 should be no problem. Typically you only have to push the front fender liner forward a little to avoid rubbing at full lock.

Depends on the exact tire and wheel. I'm guessing at 4.5" backspacing you have an 8" wheel. if so, that works well and you will have no major problems.

Each combination is a little different. Even the same tires size can be a little different diameter by make/model.

I just mounted up some 285 nittos on 8.5" wheels with 4.5" bs and -6mm offset. Have 2.5" lift up front. Am rubbing lightly on the hump on the mudflap' and the front lower bumper at full lock either direction. Am going to mess aroung with some trimming and caster today to see if i can get rid of it. My guess is you will be in a similar situation, but a little less if u go with a narrower wheel.

Got rid of all the rubbing! Just had to trim the mud flap a little bit on the inside where it covers the body mount. Also had to push the front liner forward. Really easy and non-invasive. No more rubbing at full lock, full compression. I was a little hesitant to get the 285's too, but am glad I did now that everything is dialed in..

Another thing that I just noticed, the guy at 4wheel ordered LT tires, thinking I should go with P tires instead. Eventually will add bumper, skid plates, rack all that, but even with that weight dont think LTs are need. Any thoughts?

I have a 2.5" stage II icon set up as well, pushed the fender liner back and everything is good. Once in a while i rub on the driver side in reverse at full lock, but it's light and it rarely happens.

Adding all the weight of armor plus planning to wheel it,I'd go with LT over P. P rated if you are building a street princess.

Lol. You will once all your armor is on! I get 13-16 mpg. You gotta give some up to be bullet proof...

I doubt you'll see 18 mpg ever again once you go to LT 285s. After adding bumpers, skids, etc. be happy to be in low double digits.

I think it is because I drive like an old man... seriously, I can get it on the freeway driving about 65-70, 34s inflated to 45 but only in the flat valley. Hit the hills and "bye bye." 318 miles and 20 gal at refill. However, you are correct. Most of the time it is 14.
