Here's Some Help with Navigation Install

I think I may pull that face plate I made out and flip it around to the smooth non texured side and spray it with a little flat black paint to match the rest of the dash a little better.
 
Just finished the yellow LED install on my NAV unit. It took two days. I'll post pics as soon as I find a digital camera.

FYI Toy-Man: I changed and installed a variation to the face plate. This one looks a lot better (really like stock!). I will post a diagram and dementions as soon as I can.

I am still waiting for my nav system to arrive, but while I am waiting you and the rest who already have the nav up and running are having all the fun figuring things out. I admire you for going out and doing the LED changeover. Your research here will make it easier for us who will be following.

I will order the LEDs today since you have found an exact match. That way I can get on with the changeover as soonas my unit arrives.

Any more words of wisdom regarding the LED chnageover? I suspected it would not be easy. I have a soldering station and have been involved in electronic circuit building all my grownup life and would like to tacke the LED changeover myself but have a friend who works for a high tech firm who does prototyping, he has all the neat tools, for soldering and desoldering SMCs. I'll call upon him if I feel the job is too much.

The integration of the Voice Nav is still a challenge I look forward to. This may not be poss but like you, I will give it a good shot.

I was down at radio shack today and asked about their amplified speaker. Thay told me that they no longer stock that type of thing, pity, I was hoping to use that as a backup if the integration doesn't happen.

I look forward to seeing some picture whenever you have them.

Well the speaker is no longer manufactured I don't think. You may have to call several Radio Shacks to find it. My local store said they would order it for me but I found it at a different store. Let me know if you can't find it!
 
Does that speaker run off of 12 volts or does it have a battery (9v)? I have a small amplifier that would do the job. I could fit it in an older cell phone handsfree speaker I have kicking around here made by Motorola. That would work similar to the amplified speaker you refer to.

With the above diagram for the face plate, You may need to cut notches at the top to clear two clips that hold the center dash. I will take a picture as soon as I can but it is almost identical looking as this stock picture:

This Navigation system looks great. I think I am ready to take the plunge and buy it and try to install it myself. I have a few questions and was hoping someone can help.

Is the location of the speed and reverse sensor on the 2004 4runner the same as that described by Pete for the 2003 4runner in the original instructions post?

I know the Navigation is touch control but would the steering wheel volume and station controls still work?

Start to finish, how much time for the install?

Yes, Yes, and time and cost depends on how you approach the install:

What your going to use for voice, are you going to change out the LED's, do you need to fabricate a faceplate for you dash.

I did all the above and it took me a good week to complete. I and others provided the information in this thread so it would not take new folks so long to do it though. Your time may vary.

As for the install, if I have a 04 Sport with the base head unit (ie no JBL), my understanding is that the voice should work with no extra/special hook-up and no faceplate would be needed. Am I correct?

As for the LEDs, I will live with the different color.

What if any additional items would I need for the install and is 1 day enough time to complete?

No, nothing additional (well, you do need to hook up two wires.. one to the speed sensor, and one to the reverse sensor).

yes, one day is plenty of time. Once you know what you are doing you could do an install in about 20 min.
 
Now I have a question, will the Solara NAV work for lojeff or will he need the Camry version since he does not have the JBL system? It's my understanding (and I may be wrong) that the normal 6 speaker system has a head unit with internal amplifier.

He needs the Camry version. The Solara verion will only work with the JBL 10 spk system.

You are correct... the 6 speaker system does have an amp.. none of the NAV systems do, so he will need to add the AMP the oemValue sends with the Camry NAV.
 
Thanks for the help. This board is such a valuable resource.

Two more questions before I make the purchase. The feedback on OEMVALUE.com has been very good. Did anyone encounter problems or should I buy without worry?

Also, is there a link to instructions for removing the concole and center dash. It looks like the links on the first post are old.
