The problem with the 4Runner unit is, its a 2 piece system. So you have to mount the brain in the back. So you have to run the wire and all that crap.
I would much rather just remove the old head unit, and install that Solara model and be done with it
I'm so glad that it has been confirmed that it works with our 10 speaker systems!!!

UPDATE: 10 sk JBL Installation complete...
Hi all. so my Solara unit is fully functional with voice and my truck is all back together! YEAH (I was tired of driving the Miata... WAY too low to the ground!) Anyway... the answer is YES!!!.. it is possible to retain your 10 speaker JLB system (With Surround features) and add the Toyota NAV unit. The last problem focused around getting the voice navigation to be hears. turns out the Solara unit uses a special preamped channel for the voice, and our AMPs don;t have the INT for the feed (well..at least i don't think we do.. i couldn;t find it on the diagrams.. so i gave up. So to complete the install you have to add a very small AMP (I added a 40 WATT amp and hide it) and a speaker (i originally thought i could run this amped signal to the front left speakers.. tried that.. kind of worked.. but it was obvious that i was causing distorsion when music was playing and the voice was talking.) So i added a small speaker and hid it under the drivers side knee panel. I ended up using one of those speakers from a hands free unit... worked great. I suppose there might be other ways of doing this.. but i knew this would work and I was ready to have my truck back together. I will write up a full summary with pictures of my installation process.
The stereo still sounds GREAT!, and now i can find the nearest Starbucks at the touch of a button (I am in Seattle.. we need to know there the nearest Starbucks is!)

Here is the part number for the XM Tuner Kit for the Solara NAV unit (7001). The dealer quoted me $488!!! YIKES! I am not sure what you get for $500.. but I am guessing a tuner you need to stash under your seat, a funky XM antenna, and some wires. I am trying to find a lower price... i'll let you know what i find.

Do you have a molex connector at pins B12/13? or is it not used?
I just installed this system in my 04 Sienna and I use this port (R6) but can't find terminals small enough to fit in the holes of the connector to run to either the amp or separate amp, as you did, for voice nav.

I liked 107.7 alot better before they switched to the alternative format. Now I'm stuck with KISW, or Funky Monkey, and both stations start to get on my nerves if I listen to them too long.

another question about the Nav, do you know if there is a DVD/CD changer for it? Maybe one small enough to fit in that glove box secret area?
I've seen the standard CD Cargo mounted changer, but I don't want to mount it in the back, and it looks too big to fit anywhere in that glove box area, or even under the seat??
Plus, a DVD changer sure would be nice, because I would like to get a rear entertainment system for mine someday.

Here is some info from oemvalue that I inquired about the solara nav unit for the 04 4runner w/ 10spkr JBL system.
"There is a way to connect an external CD changer from what my customers tell me, however I do not have one available. The buttons on the Solara unit are green; a local radio repair shop may be able to convert the buttons to orange. The trade in value of your old unit is $150. I have one more Solara Nav unit in stock and it is priced at $1,550. Thanks."
Hope this clears some stuff up for someone. I'm not looking to purchase one for a few more months, so that one that's left (if it is really only 1, someone better pick it up!)
