Thanks to a suggestion by 'Go Jaybee' I learned that with just the DRL on, the output on the dash and info display is much brighter and actually visible with my sunglasses on. So... how can I rig it so that those displays are always that bright? There must be a way.

You can use the adjustment wheel knob thing to turn it all the way up when the headlights are on.

Yeah, that's a given. The lights are even brighter with just the DRL on.

Maybe for those standing in front of your 4R, not inside! It has been a common complaint about the std stereo, the small fonts and the inability to see the screen with polarized sunglasses. I think it was a game to see how small they could make the XM channel numbers in the corner.

I guess I should have :rtfm: I'm going to try this tomorrow. Although... I'm not sure if this will help if I have something other than DRL on during the day.

Very interesting....I thought I was the only one that read the manuals, but I totally missed that one. Seems like there was an option for the dealer to customize settings at the 1k courtesy check-up...it was on the list, but I did not fully understand what was being talked about. Oh well, I will be getting my TIS Cable soon, so I will be able to really screw things up if I want (or not) to.

Well I tested this out and it only affects the brightness with the lights off or with only DRL on. It still dims with the other settings. Back to the electrical gurus. :sadwave:

I have this exact complaint.

If I have the lights on for safety, trails or rain / fog, but it is not night time - you cannot read the screen.

Very frustrating.

I went through the nav screen settings trying to change the brightness, but a lot of the buttons were greyed out if I remember correctly.

Maybe the techstream can unlock the settings and the dealer or the program software can adjust the brightness.

Still trying to figure it out, but not trying too hard.

I spent about 3 hrs last month trying to trick the dash lights into "staying bright". All my ideas were dead ends.

I'm pretty sure CAN sends a signal to the dash to dim the cluster. The radio display looks like it's dimmed by a direct link.
Turn your lights on while looking at your dash. You will notice the radio display dims immediately and then the cluster dims after a very short delay. Has to be a CAN signal IMO.

I gave up after I took the plunge and had to re-solder half a dozen wires...

Good luck- maybe I took the wrong approach!

Haha, yeah I just leave the lights on since they turn off automatically.
