Water travels through the grill and will reach the intake filter, in the engine compartment. By taking the air from the inner wheel well (Which is isolated from the engine compartment) and the vehicle moving forward the water is deflected away from the intake. So even if the fender intake is lower then the engine compartment intake, the water will not reach it. I'm sure the engineers at Toyota know what they are doing. There is also an advantage of taking cooler air from the fender over heated air from the engine compartment. From my experience with Toyota/Lexus vehicles I've come to the conclusion that there is a good reason for their design/engineering and sometimes mods have a negative affect. Without knowing the exact affect I'm hesitant to mod. This is one of those questionable mods. If water is not an issue this $70 intake is a steal!

Paragon has been closed for like 4 years? It was nice though. I don't think they ever were able to re-open were they?

Rausch Creek is still open and a pretty nice park. Though I remember Paragon being a lot less rock filled than Rausch.

That's about the last time I was there. The last several times I went off roading was in the Carlile area of PA. I also have family near Nanicoke PA and go through the farm lands.

I do more camping then off-roading these days. I'm planning an extended cross country trip (With a new camper) that will include my favorite, Colorado (Old mining roads and mountain passes).

I agree with Koz. I was looking for a CAI for my v8, but I heard some rumors and the benefits don't add up. I can't find a good excuse to get a CAI, especially a CAI without headers and a catback. You did mention something about a couple more MPG's, let me know if it's helping you.

Hey! It worked Even with me flooring it every now and then to hear to beefyness, i'm still getting better MPG's than I was before the install! It has gone from 16.1 to 17.3! That's not half bad! Especially with the amount that I drive each week.. Anyways, just letting you guys know that i'm still stoked about the install.

How is it a cold air intake?? How isn't it? With this setup, the air is still being drawn strait from the wheel well duct and as soon as i'm finished with the install it will be completely sealed off from the rest of the engine compartment. Sorry, i'll have updated pics up in a couple days, or as soon as I can get the intake box finished.. I've been super busy..

Well from what I've heard, the stock x-pipe on these 4runners is crap and really restricting. So if anything, i'm going to get that fixed then probably throw on a magnaflow 44 or 50 series.. But yeah, the intake is def helping with my mpg's
