HID Lights behind grill

I installed the Piaa 510 plasma ion's about a year ago. Unhappy with the light output, I recently converted the stock H3 halogen bulbs to 3000k HID setup. VERY happy now with the light output! :wow:

I had 4" hella hid 6000k before and I was happy, before somebody stole them:)
I'm sorry do you have those behind the grill?

No I have them mounted flush (through) the bottom grill. I had to cut out circles from the bottom factory grill to allow the Piaa's to poke through. Could not be happier with the outcome!

looks nice, thank you for pictures! I would like to do same way, but it can be stolen again :violin:
 
Quick thought/question, is the upper grill strong enough to support a pair of Hella 500ff lights. I took of the chrome piece that runs across the length of it, and plan on making some plates to distribute the weight of the lights over more surface area.

Hi-jack and bump-ish...

Has anyone completed a light install behind the UPPER grill? I know I have seen a picture out there but can't seem to find it and the "user picture" thread has 125-150 pages (plus I'm at work and half the pictures are blocked). I'm trying to find out what is possibly back there to connect to or if I were to build a bracket like many others would it still allow me room to keep the lights inside the grill.
 
I did it a few months back. Two Vision-X 6.7" 55w HID's in "euro" beam pattern behind the grill. It took my quite a bit of fabrication but it turned out excellent. Those lights put out an enormous amount of light.

They look yellow in the pics but that is a result of a screwed up white balance. They are almost identical in color to my 4300k Philips low beam bulbs.
