Hideous running boards

As I was driving I noticed these unbelievable running boards. Thought you guys can get a good laugh out of it

I saw some like that on a Trail Edition a couple of years ago. It was in the DFW area but Florida plates.

This is in NYC, why get a 4Runner and add these hideous running boards limiting cars capabilities? No offense to short people but if you have a hard time getting into this vehicle should of gotten a CRV or a Highlander :

Ive never seen any running boards that I think add to the appearance of a 4runner. They all look pretty bad in my opinion.

I didn't mount RBs for esthetics, I did it for my short wife. They are every bit as functional-purposeful as some of the ass-ugly wheels, front bumpers, and armor around here too.

Come to think of it, I don't drive a 4R as a fashion statement either.

Those are meant for a limited because they have the rocker panel on them so the boards have to come down lower. The dumb person driving that sr5 didn't do his/her research and now he gets laughed at. I've seen a couple like that on the roads here too

My Trail came with boards- thankfully not those nasty things- but until I get rock rails they're staying. 4R is my fashion statement! I want to live outside and know I reliably will make it back home

You would be surprised in the size difference in the OEM running boards between an sr5 and and a limited. I would take a picture for you but I don't feel like opening 2 boxes of running boards.

They usually aren't intentional. The early SR5 5th Gen models (like mine) have the low-hanging rocker trim pieces just like the Limited models. The 2014+ SR5s (gen 5.5?)have the high-and-tight rocker trim like on the Trail versions. That's the model in the pic.

Most people don't know about the different plastic configurations between different trim levels, much less the fact that the SR5 models changed configurations halfway through the generation.

If someone with a late gen SR5 orders a set of running boards spec'd to fit an early gen SR5, you get what's shown in the picture.
