Hi everyone! I have owned 3 separate 4th gens and have loved them all but it may be time.... I found a 2012 TE for sale. It has every option except for leather, it even has that KDSS system that I know nothing about. Anyway, the mileage is holding me back, it has just under 100k miles already. I can get it for $24k, but I just don't know if I should let the high mileage worry me? I think that's a fair price. Thoughts on mileage and price? Thanks everyone!

I would suggest having them change transmission fluid. Beside that it's a new Toyota truck at this mileage.

I work in the car business as a salesman, IMHO, its too high for that, I just picked one up myself in January, 2010 loaded with 70K miles for 24500, I would wait it out and find one with lower miles, just my 2 cents.

Your going to get a lot of opinions on this one. While I agree with the previous poster that the truck likely has 100k+ more miles left in it with ease I would not pay 24k for a truck that was ~38k new that has that many miles on it. The way I look at it the best/most trouble free miles are past it. Again, I am not saying its worn out by any means, far from it but you are increasing the likelihood of having to replace wear items such as bearings, tie rod ends, steering linkage , brakes etc. and I don't think the price reflects that but the 4runner holds its value extremely well which is why I think people tend to say its "better" to buy new. Clearly someone is buying used otherwise the prices wouldn't be so high.

I bought my '01 in '07 with 119k miles on it and had zero problems with it until I sold it at 210k miles 7 years later, however I only paid $12k for that one. $24k seems high to me.
I realize my comparison is slightly apples/oranges, but at the same time after that experience I would not hesitate in investing in a 4Runner at around 100k miles. Just know that you'll have some costly preventative maintenance sooner, such as replacing the timing belt (if it hasn't already been done at the 90k interval).
It is more about getting a good deal than about the budget. As for the trim level, anything but the base model. I like to increase the resale value in the long run and the SR5 limits that.
Thanks for the insight everyone, I am a little shy on the purchase. It's just the cheapest 5th gen I have came across in the inflated rocky mountain region.

Not sure if it was the same in 2012, but for the 2014 models being an SR5 does not necessarily mean it's a base model. Trail Edition and SR5's come in Base and Premium, and the SR5 4x4 premium's price is comparable to a TE Premium, just different options.

Gotcha. Have you checked out other states? I bet you're right that in areas like CO and the west prices are a little higher.

I paid 28k for my 2013 sr5 4x4 with 23k on it a few months ago. Better deals are out there.
