High pitch noise from engine? Might be normal

I could have sworn I read somewhere here that a high pitched faint noise was normal due to something mechanical in the 4runner that simply generates noise.

Went to get my first oil change the other day, and I'm not sure if its related, but I hear a faint whining noise from the engine, that increases its pitch as I rev the engine. Any ideas what this could be? Again, its very faint, but just audible enough to be slightly annoying, and I didn't have it when the car was brand new.

When you hear that sound again, try turning off your radio, see if it goes away.

If it does, you may have a battery going out, which is causing the alternator to run a bit harder, this can cause a bit more "alternator whine" through the stereo.

When my 14 was new it had an annoying whining sound engine speed related.
It went away at around 10k miles. I never did figure out what it was.

Mine does it as well. I initially started to get worried that it was the transmission, even though I've only got 17,xxx on it and it's very faint, but it also does it in park when I rev the engine.

I've got 6k on my 2016 and have noticed the same thing. It happens after 3,500 or so RPM when accelerating. Almost sounds like gear whine.

Could be your turbo.

That's probably what it is. How much extra horsepower does the turbo give me and where is it located? I can't seem to find it?

I've got 64K on mine and it has whined from day one. I tend to hear it more as I tune out engine and road noise. It does sound like a turbo when it kicks into 4th or 3rd for passing:).

35K on my 14 T4R. Nothing comes to mind with a whining sound. It does have a very slight whine at 60MPH that is most likely the gears. It is very slight and goes away at 65MPH.
