Holcomb Creek Trail

Quatre Coureur

New member
I will be running the Holcomb Creek Trail(3N93)on April 11th with my buddy Danny Cruz(FJ-62). Hopefully Kimo makes it. It's in the Big Bear lake area if anyone is interested. 33s, sliders, and a locker highly recommended. It's a fun, black diamond trail(see pic by GVL below). 2wd hostile, 4wd sorta friendly... :thumb3:

Rendezvous at the usual spot: Valero Station, 32755 Hwy. 18 Running Springs @8am.

1. Quatre Coureur, 88 4rnr
2. Danny Cruz, 89 FJ-62
3. RedRun85, 85 4rnr
4. E-ROCKER, 84 Hi-Lux
5. One spot left...

Sounds like fun, I have been wanting to hit some new trails. Unfortunately my vehicle doesn't meet those requirements yet. Can I make it with 4wd, a lift and a tow strap?

I bashed my gas tank last time I went out with y'all. Lost 3 gallons of capacity. Dare I go again and bash more parts? Decisions...

Of course u should! Look at the bright side Ken, now it costs less to fill up! :D
I definitely plan on bashing more parts! That's half the fun! :lmao:

ahh. I have 33s and locker. I was very close to doing that trail in January but decided against it because I have no sliders!!!!:behindsofa:

Sorry bro wish I could make it but that's the weekend I'm doing calico with my group sonsofthunder4x4.com . You and who ever wants could join along if you wish.

Thanks Chris. I'll run it by my friend, see what he thinks since nothing is set in stone yet. I had a great time running Calico with your group last time. Thanks for the offer Chris... :peace:

Hello everyone my name is Pat i'm fairly new to this forum. I have a 3rd Gen 4Runner and would definitely like to meet some of the locals. Seems like there are two trips on the same weekend, this and TTORA Calico trip. What time are you guys planning on meeting up Saturday morning?

Haha, I just passed by the HC trailhead yesterday on the way to Fawnskin to renew the ol' wood cutting permit. I would love to do it in someone else's truck, but I just dont have the heart to subject my rig to that punishment at this point in our relationship LOL.

Have a blast and be safe guys, there was a Jeep overturned on GVL Rd yesterday and the guy was pretty banged up and bloody all over. The CHP and meds were just rolling up and his buddy in another jeep was already attending to him along with a couple other people that stopped so I didn't want to get in the way to get any details - hope he got away without anything too serious.

Punishment? For 4runners it's a reward for all that asphalt we subject them to! I guess I never thought of it that way... :wow:

You're right Paul, the 4R seems to love life living in the dirt and exploring the forest frequently, but I really rely on it (and just love it) too much to accidentally smash something I can't fix myself. I'm learning as much as I can and have done quite a few mods myself, but im certainly no mechanic and repairs up here can be expensive. I can't wait to get proficient enough to confidently repair almost anything myself, but that might be a little while yet.

So punishment may have been the wrong word, but it certainly is a bumpy ride and to be honest I thought the rocks looked a little more intimidating in person - my hats off to you guys - be careful and have fun :hatsoff:

I totally understand u not wanting to trash your rig. It's your DD and your lifeline up there. Mine is not. I put a big dent in mine on the last run and, idk, it's sorta like popping your cherry(for lack of a better analogy)now that its done, it's like a weights been lifted. I figured you'd want to go since your rig is well-built and very capable(IMO). If you change your mind, you know where to find us. :tea:

P.S. Great pic!!!

So glad you're making it! We are certainly neighbors, I'm over by Turnbull Canyon. Looking at the lineup so far, I may rename this thread "Classics go to Big Bear"!

man i really wish i could make this. I've never been up there and have only gotten to use my lockers once since install, but I'm waiting on wheels that have been stuck in port for ever and have the new tires just sitting in the garage.

keep me in mind for the next time you go up there. don't forget to take pics too.

I know what u mean, I'm waiting on a bumper. I'm going either way tho. Weren't u supposed to go on my Nov. 1st run? The White Mtn. run? I could be mistaken... Maybe next one. I'll be doing Dishpan Springs(west to east)next. Then John Bull, maybe Horsethief Flat, not sure yet...
