Hollow sounding passenger door

Hello. I am new to the forum. Having just purchased a 2013 Shoreline Limited, I have a question:

The driver side door has this awful, tinny sound when closed. The passenger side door doesn't not suffer from this. I am wondering if anyone knows what I should do. Or is this just something normal for the doors of the '13s? It's a brand new car, so before I go back to the dealership to complain, I thought I would see if anyone else has/had this problem. If so, is there something I can do to fix it and make it sound more solid upon closing. Thanks for any input!! This forum has been really helpful while deciding on the 4runner as my new car.

Others, myself included, experience this as well. I think one of the remedies is dynamatting your door, but I'd search to be sure.

My wife noticed this when she took it for a drive over the weekend.

I went out and slammed all the doors, and I hear it, too.

A door striker and latch adjustment could help. If not, something as simple as a small piece of adhesive material placed on the inside of the door skin will alleviate the "ringing" sound.

The minimal essential remedy is to tape a big "X" in foam tape on the inside of the door. Flat sheet metal panels tend to make a hollow noise just like the skin on a drum does.

2010 TE. All of my doors had a tin can sound. Not sure why your driver side sounds worse than the passengers. Could be more than just the thin metal skin. Suggest trying what 1Engineer suggested with the door latch.

As for the overall tin can sound, I Dynamatted more to improve my stereo sound and that it did but the more dramatic improvement was in cabin noise and the sound when you shut the door or tap on the outer skin. Huge improvement! Do an internet search. Dynamat is kind of a rip off. There are cheaper alternatives that do the same thing. In Hawaii, not many retail alternatives. Dynamat is more expensive than gold so when I saw it on Amazon, it looked dirt cheap and I jumped on it. Really no complaints as I got it for about 1/3 of what dealers in Hawaii were asking but there are even cheaper, good alternatives.

Ditto.
Only I used RAAMmat and Ensolite for my doors and RAAMmat for the floor and rear quarter panels (in progress) and will use RAAMmat and Ensolite in my lift-gate. My truck is already as quiet as a church and when you tap on the outside it gives a nice dull thud.
