Yeah unlike most guys here i like both ends of the truck world. lifted, slammed, OME plus whatever, as long as its aesthetically pleasing and done right. but if you do shit like this, you deserve to get your balls chopped off so people like that won't breed

You're a dork. Guys hate on 2wd 4Runners because they can't function the way most guys think a truck should function, and taking a 2wd 4Runner and turning it into whatever that is in the OP doesn't make it any better.

I couldn't care less what the guy does with his truck. I've come to the conclusion that if he's happy with it, I'm happy for him, and my personal opinion of that truck doesn't enter into it. But your rant is completely off base - guys don't hate on show/street conversions because they don't have plastidip, they hate on them because they're completely useless as trucks, and most guys here value function over form (a few satoshi-grill knobs notwithstanding).

Nice, I started out (well dad got me started out) with his 97 izuzu homre, we bagged it did all the work our selfs. I came from the world of mini trucking before I got into building classic rods with him, and lifted trucks. I say, I appreciate all cars that have had hard hours into them by the OWNER. Even though it may not be your "thing" appreciate, as they put as much dedication into it, as you into yours. This is anything but totaled, this is a piece of work. I doubt it was easy to lower an suv that was built for off road. All that fab work, I can only imagine how proud he is of his work. (If he did the work, if not whoever did the work must be proud of his artwork). Slammed, lifted, donked it all takes work, its love for the hobby/addiction.

PS. If you like white bread, and your friend likes rye, do you cry or disgrace him? Same thing...
 
You know, it's not my thing. I suspect that it's not as functional in most situations as a regular 4wd with the same wheel base.

But the dude put some serious thought into putting it together, and he does take it wheeling, and he likes it. Can't fault him for that at all.
 
I think it is totally doable. I have put a couple seconds of thought into it.


Dump the leaf spring suspension.

Set up two sets of 4 link suspensions.

Move the first axle right behind the body like the 4 door tacos.

Have the second axle spaced out proportionally.


Now for it to be driven.

The jeep used a divorced transfer case backwards so having one input and two outputs. Neat idea because he can shift it into 2 wheel drive and have only two sets of tires driven.

I could take it further and the 4runner AWD transfer case and let it drive both axles two differentiate it.

The other idea i had was the get another differential carrier and bolt it to the back side of the first axle. I would cut the back housing off and weld a mounting plate to mount the diff carrier to. I would use the pinion but not the ring gear. It would share the ring gear.

Use a short drive shaft like the front drive shaft to connect it to the second axle.


Now the second axle would have to have a front differential carrier because the drive shaft would be turning the opposite way. But it will have to be an elocker or an airlocker of course.

Someone double check my drive shaft rotation for me. Thanks
 
I'm definitely a function over form guy so that 4Runner doesn't really do it for me. I can appreciate the work but its just not my style


However, this is one form over function truck i absolutely love

If your appreciation for things automotive is limited to bolting on a lift and plasti-dipping the shit out of your 4Runner, then you're only doing yourself a disservice. This lifted vs. lowered debate is high school parking lot BS. I'd be willing to bet that the owner/builder of that Runner could school 90% of the guys on this board, myself included, in metal fab, suspension engineering, and all manner of vehicle "customization".

Do yourselves a favor and broaden your spectrum a bit. I've got friends that I've body-dropped trucks with and swapped axles with, wired stereos and wired offroad lights, and hacked body panels to clear both 20s and 37s. And I've learned a hell of a lot more than I would have if I let things that are different make me angry, outraged, or want to throw something.

I guess this was shocking to me because seeing a slammed T4R is something you do not see often. I do love cars and the work that goes into them. So to the team that built it, great work. It is not my style but I do love the paint on this truck and I would like to see more.

Angry much? I can certainly appreciate the work and $$ someone put into this, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. At all (except that paint job, wow awesome). I personally can't see the point of dropping a street vehicle like this, but again that's my personal opinion. So you have your opinion of it, let those of us that disagree have ours.
