Home link buttons

Annoying Indeed! What were they thinking? They even have pre-existing illumination wiring already ran to the Traction Control buttons that live next to the Home-Link buttons!

Are there any factory sized switches that would fit here that already have illumination built in? Maybe we could look into modding the labeling on a different switch that would work?

I'll probably do the Antman/Sp8ball 3mm LED mods at some point as I do find this annoying everytime I pull into my driveway after work (in the dark)...

Not only are they not lit, but I don't think the range is there either. There are times I have to push the button more then once to get it to respond and I usually have to be directly in front of the garage door. I've had two other past vehicles with homelink and they just seemed to work better and at a further distance. Oh well, I still love my TR4!

I have no problem with distance with mine. I can be about 2 houses away and it would still work.

Same here - My T4R's Home-Link surpasses the range of my stock garage-door-openers.

This seems to vary by model year - but I'd be willing to bet local interference plays a much larger role (it's game of chance WRT what local frequencies are interfering with YOUR particular garage door frequency). Liken it to Wi-Fi: move an inch, and your speed drops in half...

Radio Frequency transmission (RF) in general is still somewhat of a black-art in the 21st century. Most radio-engineers are shocked RF works at all! :spy:

I haven't really done a range check yet, but did notice the buttons were not lit. I was thinking of putting a small piece of irridesent tape on the button.

Our range is acceptable. But I really have to push the button just right and fairly hard to get it activated.

My buttons remain in the same place night after night so backlighting does not seem an issue.

Me too ,after 3+ years I don't even think to look. It's like my finger is possessed and just goes to the button! Always in the same place like my ears and they aren't lit up either.

Cheap and easy way to light them is a dab of glow in the dark paint or nail polish and comes in all kinds of colors ............ Amazon.com: Glow in the Dark Lipstick & Nail Polish: Everything Else

A dab will do ya but stay away from the lipstick though!
