I think mine had been taken down once before I did the mod so that is why it was easier for me to pull down I guess.

I wouldn't worry about the clip though, you can always bend the clip to get a tighter fit or just buy a new clip. Toyota is very good about small parts. Many times I've bought a single clip or screw and they had no problem doing it for me.

Next comes the electrochromatic rear view mirror as soon as I find the right part number.

I did a part search using Longo's on-line part search engine. My best guess is that the part number for the autodimming compass mirror is 87810AA020. It's listed at a whopping $564.45!

Partznet has the auto dimming mirror (no part number) at $442.88 ($567.79 list).

I guess this is why there are several posts regarding other sources of obtaining this mirror.

Thanks for the info rando. The mirror are available as an accesory in the Southeast distribution area so for whatever reason they are alot cheaper from dealers down there. I found it at toyotaperts4u for $169.97. btw I checked at my local dealer and we found it and he said the same thing, list for like $550 and he would sell it to me for $450

I emailed partznet a while back about the Homelink and said he couldn't get it so I went elsewhere and bought it for $93. Not too bad but I wish partznet could have helped me when I asked about it.

Hmmm... I just ordered the homelink from partznet last nite. I guess maybe they'll send me an email if they can't actually get the part. I'll let you/everyone know.

This was a while ago that I asked about it. At the time the guy said something like "they come preprogrammed from the factory so we can't do it". I'm sure that they finally figured out that it is a part and not "programming from the factory". At the time I also didn't have a part number for them to look for I just asked "if the Homelink can be added"

The partznet part catelog interface I used yesterday let me look up parts by their functional area within the truck, complete with schematics in many cases (similar to what a dealer parts counter guy would use). Oddly, they only list the parts by description and the corresponding part number never appears. If you already know the part number then you can order parts that way too. Even then the part number is removed when looking at your shopping cart.

My guess is they don't want peope using their site to look up part numbers which they might then order elsewhere. I might be 100% wrong about this though.

Just call the parts guy and say you want this part but in Taupe. I'm sure it is just one digit change but I don't know which one it is and what it changes to.

It's just a one-digit change. The B is changed either to W or E, I forgot which one. I'll have to check it out later.

By the way, does the Homelink only work when the key is switched on? Or will the controls work with the engine and key off?

I'm used to opening the garage door before I start the truck, just so I don't get an exhaust smell in the garage that can seep into the house. Just wondering if the Homelink allows you to still open the door before starting the truck.

It works with engine key switch off, similar to the map lights.

Gentex Auto Dimming Mirror WITH HomeLink

For those interested, Gentex makes an autodimming mirror w/ the homelink feature built into it. You can order thru Mito Corp.:

According to that URL, those mirrors are only available through a dealer. You CAN order the autodimming mirror with compass w/o homelink from their site however. I think another thread on this sites mentions that it's the same as the OEM mirror.

According to UPS.com, my homelink will be delivered today (or probably not since I wont be there to sign for it). In any case, 7 days is not too bad.
