Homelink Garage Door Opener

When I ordered mine, I got it for $90 + tax. That sales person keeps telling me it won't be a homelink unit and just a metal plate!!. He even said that they wont accept returns as it was a special order. As Toybox said earlier, many sales persons don't even know what they are selling.................

Got it, installed it, it works! Everything went just as described on page 2 of this thread. $76.44 (no tax .... woohoo!) from partznet. I had a couple of other parts in my order for my other truck and shipping (UPS ground) was only $9.75 all the way back to CA. 7 days from order to receipt.

Ordered mine today. The service manager at the dealership where I bought the truck did some checking -- they even cross-checked by VIN to make sure that it would fit (can't beat that kind of service). It seems that the parts description in the Toyota catalog is lacking, so that causes some confusion. The pictures in this thread really helped.

He's ordered it for me, and I expect it will arrive in a couple of days....maybe in time to install this weekend.

By the way, he mentioned that his latest demo is a 4Runner Limited, and he really has gotten hooked on the HomeLink. I'm looking forward to getting it!

I'm getting it for the garage door openers only. If I wanted it for lights, I would have used X10 instead, since I've used that technology for years inside the house.

Actually the homelink buttons are compatible with the x10 RF receiving unit. Using both, you can easily program your homelink buttons to activate any x10 device and/or fire a macro on your x10 controller.

I will use mine to turn on/off the house lights in addition to opening the garage door.

I finally got around to installing my new console with the opener today at lunch. I think it took 5 minutes including programming my opener and reading my owner's manual. Mine was $98 through my dealer.

The HomeLink system is X10 compatible... you can get stuff at radio shack and even x10.com (if they're still in business) I had it in my Envoy and it worked w/ both my Chamberlain Garage Door Opener and my X10 home automation setup...

wait, so what do you need to buy (and from where) to make your house lights turn on/off?

I have homelink in my truck but never used it.

There are many possibilities but let's assume something simple. Let's say you want a homelink button to work a light attached to an existing (one way) wall switch in your house. You buy and install the x10 wall switch module (WS467-HA, $12.99), replacing your existing wall switch. Then buy the x10 car control kit $24.99 {includes Wireless Transceiver Module (TM751-HA, $12.99) and Keychain remote (KR19a)}. You plug the transceiver into any wall socket in your house. For this simple scenario, the garage would probaly make a great place for the transceiver since you'll be there or near there when you want to turn on the house lights. You program (set switches) the wall switch module and transceiver module. You take the included keychain remote and follow the normal homelink programming procedure. That's it, you can now control the light from your car!

There are MANY other x10 switches, controllers, etc. They also like to offer package discounts, so it helps to know what you want to accomplish before you buy. That way you can avoid getting useless or redundant modules. You can buy their stuff at their web site www.x10.com, radio shack, fry's and sometimes at home depot. For the most part the stuff works though you should be aware that x10 devices do not provide feedback to x10 controllers. What this means is that there is no way for an x10 controller to confirm if an individual device received (and implmented) a command. For the simple scenario above, this has almost no effect. For other things, this can be a significant limitation.

Just ordered mine from partznet today thanks to this thread! I was sick of storing my garage door opener in the center console. Also handy since we have 3 separate garage doors, now I can open/close all of them!

Just had mine installed today. Works great. It is perfect since we have three seperate garage doors.

Installed mine today -- it took all of 2 minutes to remove the old part, install the new, and program Homelink for our garage doors. Hardest part was getting the wiring harness off of the old part. And everything is working fine.

I like to get one for my 03 4Runner too (Titanium color). You guys kept saying oak/stone/taupe, my interior is a tan color (yellowish tan), what part number should I order?

Thanks, Toybox. I bought it new from a dealer's lot and that's what came with it. I'll take some pics and show you.

There are only two colors choices for the plastic portion of the 4runner interior (regardless of trim level).

oak = fawn = taupe = tan = brown

stone = grey

First I've heard of the tan interior on a silver 4Runner. But according to the 2003 brochure, it is a valid color combination.
