Homelink handles gates in addition to garage doors and a number of other items. I have the gate to both my house and my parents programmed into mine.

Homelink installation
Man, this ROXX!!!! I just got my Homelink from Partznet, and pried off the original plate and installed the new one in about 45 seconds!!!!! The only annoying thing is to hold the two outer buttons for ***20 SECONDS*** to program it. I guess all Homelink units are like this, even for other car brands, but it is SWEET!!! I no longer have to jam the 6 cubic foot humongous garage door opener into the sunglasses holder!!!! I will probably use the other 2 buttons for the gate (that does not exist yet) in my back yard, and maybe rear light via X10.
One more thing, I wonder if the Homelink erases if you remove the battery cable? That would bite if I had to remove the battery cable for some annoying reason (get amp installed or whatever) and come home to receive a GARAGE DOOR OPEN IGNORE!!!!
Last but not least, is the Homelink range for programming quite limited? I would hate to have a thief sneak behind the garage with a homelink rigged up and copy my garage code.

I find the range is about 100 feet -- a little longer than my garage door opener with a fresh battery. If you have the rolling codes on your GDO, then you should be OK. Just watch to make sure no one suspicious is behind you.
And (hard lesson learned by a friend) -- always watch the door close completely before you drive off. Someone threw a broom handle under their garage door as it was closing and it went back up as they drove off. They came home to a clean, empty garage.
As far as losing the memory if you lose power, I'm not sure. Want to test yours?

I just wanted to thank all the members who posted to this thread. As soon as I read that I could buy a factory homelink I went to the dealer. They too told me (again) that it could not be done. So, I asked them if they had Internet access and they did, right at the counter no less. I logged in to this forum, we copied the part number and low and behold there it was! They even matched the price of partznet. Got home that night and had it installed and working in about 5 minutes thanks to all of you! Now, my brand new T4R has the extra option I really wanted but was told no by those who needed to be educated.
