ok guys I have homelink in my runner and my wifes jeep,
I have been a long time user of x10
can anyone tell me how to program the homeling to turn on an x10 light ot module. I am sure I am just missing somthing.

I do this and it works great. You have to have the RF transceiver module. First configure the light module to work with the x10 remote. Then program your homelink using the x10 remote. I recall it being a bit finicky about accepting the x10 remote codes. Just keep retrying/resetting the homelink until it takes your codes.

I don't have any spares.

1) Open/Close garage doors
2) Turn on house lights
3) Turn off house lights

Well guys I ent at it again in my jeep and the 4 runner and I was able to get the homelink control the x10. What a pleasure not tripping through the dark hall. Awesome although I would like a garage better.

Homelink

What was the first year the Homelink option is offered? Think there is a possibility of a retrofit to a 3rd genner if it wasn't offered specificially for the 3rd gen? Thanks.

Homelink was an option on the 3rd gens. The 4th gens have it on the console where the front map lights are and the 3rd gens have it on the driver sunvisor. I don't think you could fit a 4th gen homelink in a 3rd gen.

But you could probably just buy the replacement visor with the Homelink in it. Before this was available as an accessory that is how the 4th gen's did it, just ordered the correct replacement part.

Does the Homelink in the 02 visor require wiring or does it run on batteris that must be replaced? The latter sure would be easier to deal with. Know anybody whose swapped this out? Any other suggestions?

Does your visor have a lighted mirror?

If it did then I think the power is there and would screw right on. I would take my existing one off just to see if it is prewired for it. Probably only take a few minutes to check.

The ones in the 4th gen are NOT powered by batteries and I would assume the older versions are hardwired as well.

Also since your truck is a few years old you may be able to find this very cheap buying used from a scrap yard or used part dealer.

I would think so. Why not get the part and see if it works. Just check the parts department return policy so that you know if it doesn't work you could simply return it. You could probably install it in their parking lot in about two minutes and press one of the buttons to see if the little light goes on. If you get power to it I'd be confident that it works and drive it home and program it.

Thanks! The owners manual leaves out the "first time programming" instructions. I couldn't get it programmed until I performed step one.

Also, the genie excellerator is a "rolling code" type in which I had to use the "training/learn" feature.

Just to let everyone know, Partznet still has the Homelink system at their fantastic price.

Ordered mine on Oct.1, received it yesterday, Oct. 6

Took me about 6 min. to install and program it with a rolling code opener.

Bigest problem is when you pull down the old unit, the 2 metal clips come off and get lodged in the steel framework of the roof. They are a bear to try to retrieve with your fingers. A small high strength magnet, superglued to the end of a small stiff wire retrieves them nicely.

This is a "must-have" option, well worth the $$.

Homelink

Just got homelink via UPS from Partznet. What a fast and easy install. I should have bought this thing a long time ago. Installation was a snap thanks to this forum. Question, does anyone have a need for the stock stone (gray) overhead console with the moon roof control? It's just going to collect dust in the garage.
