If you rear-end someone, you are almost always at fault for not leaving sufficient distance between you and the car ahead.

One exception might be if a car suddenly swerved into your lane, slammed on the brakes, and you have witnesses to that fact.


Bottom line is the OP was following too close, and rear-ended the Honda. I'm grateful they're both ok, and that he wasn't following a Motorcycle.

Yep, that's pretty much what I was told and what I've read up on.



Last night on my way back to my hotel I probable saw about 3-4 people in a 1/2 mile who easily could've been rear end by their stupid actions.
