We have a faux hood scoop. I don't get it. Why would Toyota waste the money to design and manufacture it? Why not include more sound deadoning? Blind spot monitoring? Rear heated seats? Heated steering wheel? Under vehicle lighting? Something useful.

It's an aesthetic design choice to appear sportier.

You clearly bought a 4Runner in spite of not having those other things. Also under vehicle lighting? lol. Right.

Hood scoop

That thingy on top of the engine block In LawnDart's photo, the manifold intake, is what hood scoops used to be for, back when cars were cars and hot rods had big scoops.

Now it's just an ornament, a reference to bygone days that we recognize but don't consciously register what it was for. I wish the scoop could be opened on demand or with a temp sensor and could be closed when it's raining or cold.

[MENTION=139166]5ontheFloor[/MENTION] for the drag increase, I doubt it. The air when leaving the bumper should be deflected much higher than the scoop, therefore its impact should be minimal.
