Hood scoop?

It is a bit ricey for me. Maybe one day I'll do the led lightbar mod to actually give it a purpose.
 
Why stop at one? DIY....He with the most hood scoops wins!

Would you be able to cut out the center plastic part of the hood scoop and direct the air into the engine bay or is it just a scoop molded to a regualr hood? I know cutting it would gain no performance enhancements but it could reduce a bit of the drag or pressure that may be making the hood "flex". Just a thought/question from an aviator that beats the air into sumbmission on a regular basis...

There is a plate bolted to the underside of the scoop. I haven't tried, but it looks like you could just unbolt the plate to open up the scoop. It also looks like you could trim the plate to allow as much air in as you want. With the scoop completely open water intrusion into the engine compartment could become an issue, but by selectively trimming it you could create a water baffle and still let plenty of air in.

Thanks for answering my question, that's what I was looking for. I'm not looking to get a hood scoop was just curious as to how it was constructed, just stuck on or actually molded into the hood.
 
Kinda off track and I don't mean to Hijack the thread, but has anyone been able to mount a light bar in the hood scoop? Instead of putting it in the front grill i think it would be cool to make it functional.

I would prefer the hood like the F150 Raptor's. I think the TE hood looks good but would be better if the scoop actually functions.
 
I've never been a fan of non-functioning hood scoops, especially if it was an aftermarket mod, but if it comes from the factory that way, what can ya do?

That said.. anyone with a BP that wants to swap for a plain hood, let me know. I'll take one for the team. :hiding:

Sadly the only way you're gonna get a BP with a scoop is painting one yourself.
 
I just traded in my 06 sport (scoop), for my 2012 TE. It took me awhile to track down a TE in Ohio. The car dealership I went to didn't have any and I was trying to get them to trade for one. He kept trying to talk me into an SR5 and asking me "What does the Trail have that you think you need?" I couldn't tell him the truth...THE HOOD SCOOP! :biggrin2:
 
Thank you for your opinions on the hood scoop. We picked up 2013 magnetic gray SR5 yesterday and we’re very happy with our choice. The vehicle came with running boards but I convinced the dealer to take them off and take an additional $600.00 of the price. I didn’t like the idea of the running boards reducing the ground clearance by around four inches.
