Which opening?

I don't see how you are going to make that work. I spent hours trying to figure out how to get a light bar in there. The opening is just too narrow. Only way I can see it working is if you cannibalize a light bar all to hell. Then you run into waterproofing problems, and heat dissipation issues.

Hope you prove me wrong- it's gonna be a tough one!

The opening left by the grill or the one left by the bezel? The bezel looks pretty large so I assumed there was a good sized opening behind it.

The bezel opening has metal support structure behind it- but it's pretty large. I see where you are going here now...

Yeah, I thought I could have a piece printed directly or print a form for layup in glass. I need to get the hood measured first. I may have the Bezel measured instead since the place near me has an accurate cam measurement setup but it requires it fit on a 24" table.:nerd:

Agreed! I loved it on my 2004, and I'm glad my 2014 Trail has one as well. It adds a bit of character, and sets it apart from the plentiful SR5s and limiteds I see all the time.

I drove to the grocery store yesterday at 5:45 a.m. right as the sun was coming up, east into it and no clue what this glare thing is all about.

Maybe its because I am tall, maybe its because my pretty Attitude Black paint magically soaks up the UV rays or maybe my 2015 TE is just special, but I got no glare other than that big orange ball in the sky coming through my windshield.

My 2004 was white, and my 2014 is Gray. It does seem like I get less glare from my 2014 because it's a bit darker. When it does happen, it's not a big deal though. Another thing I've noticed is that the scoop on my 2004 was great at catching butterflies. The scoop on my 2014 rarely collects anything.

Hood Scoop, make it functional

I get what you mean about the hood scoop. It's a non-functional scoop that's just for looks. IMHO it's a tough-guy, hot rod look and for no reason. When I was a kid, hood scoops lined up with the carb' intake scoop for increased air flow.

I think you could swap hoods with any color of car for just the price of a paint job on the hood. Or buy the SR5 body part new, primed or in bare metal and have it painted.

I'd like to make this scoop functional. I'd like to remove the plastic insert that closes it and install a vent scoop that cools the engine compartment. It could feed the air intake with a lot of duct work but that may be more trouble than it's worth. Whatever it is, it would have to channel rain water out of the scoop and off of the engine. I may look closer at this someday soon.

Well the funny thing is that in the 3rd & 4th gen cases, the hood scoop was functional for non-US models that came with a diesel. The hood scoop fed the intercooler, but the 5th gens weren't sold outside the US or came with a diesel; so yeah... lol

I enjoy my hood scoop. As others have already mentioned, it adds character to the ride even though it's purely aesthetics.

It's about as useful as a bag of used dildos, as appealing as well.

The sunlight catching ability is particularly blinding when driving up hills and mountains in winter, that perfectly angles the light into your retinas.
