Hood Swap

Of course you can. The price isnt bad for the hood and scoop bits all things considered...its just pricey for essentially a scoop.
 
I would be willing to pay $300 cash if someone wanted to swap a silver scooped hood for my non-scooped hood. I live in the Hampton Roads area of VA. I'm willing to travel within reason for the swap. LMK if interested.

Need help. My ignorance assumed I could buy a TRD hood, the insert, and just swap some bits over from the SR5 hood to the TRD hood and call it a day. I bought a non-painted + primed OEM TRD hood from a private sale and it has nothing in or on it. It's just the primed hood with no plugs or tabs or anything attached.

Thinking out loud, the hood liner would be different I imagine otherwise water will seep through the hood insert and be absorbed by the SR5 liner. Then it might sag and rest on top of the engine and prove to be a fire hazard. So, at the very least I'll need a new hood liner. Then, I'm sure there are mounting tabs the hood liner clips into as well as the clips -might be able to re-use some from the SR5. Anybody have any thoughts on any clips or plugs I need to buy ahead of time when I do the swap? Stuff I can't live without to make the swap happen since

Technically, I don't really need the hood liner and assuming I just forgo the hood liner, I'm also looking for the plastic white plugs at the front of the hood that my avs bug deflector screws into. I've looked at several diagrams and for the life of me can't find the part number -does anybody have any clue what part number the white plugs circled in red are?

Any suggestions on any other parts I might require would be appreciated.

I've also enclosed the hood diagram as well. I'm slowly googling through all the numbers but figured to touch-base here in case there something critical that I've missed. Thanks in advance!

I did the same thing. I purchased a TRD scooped hood, hood scoop, hood scoop hardware and new liner clips.

Every transfers over, but the hood liner clips usually break when you take them off.

Just make sure the hood scoop installation is complete before installing the liner. the scoop has 4 bolts and I think 3 plastic clips. Those clips were a pita to install as you need to apply pressure on the top side until the clips lock in place. You may need to gently push and twist the clips a bit so it clears the thickness of the metal and locks in place. A second person would come in handy.

for anyone that has done the swap or purchased new from the dealer, how did you get it home? Will it fit in the back cargo area of the 4R?
I did some quick measurements, it close but there's seems to be an inch to spare if you turn it the short way (front to back vs left to right).

You can mount it on the roof rack. Get some towels and tie downs and your good. The ship who painted mine offered to install it for $75.

It's not going to fit in the back of your 4R with the packaging it comes in. It's pretty well protected and way larger than our cargo area. If you absolutely must transport it inside a vehicle, for whatever reason, you will need something like a cargo van.

I'm taking it off another 4r so no oem packaging involved. I'm thinking about taking mine off and driving the 20 minutes hoodless and install it right there! I can also bubble wrap it and borrow a friends Tacoma. Will see how it goes.

that’s probably your easiest solution. it’s simple bolt on with no adjustments on the hood spring side.

Has anyone tried wrapping the hood instead of painting? I know the 3M gloss white is pretty close to SW. Probably wouldn't be off by much from what you'd get at a shop. If I don't get lucky, I'll probably end up doing this within the year.

I drive with polarized sunglasses, I don’t have any glare issue.
