How did you mount your mini tablet?

Just a tablet, yeah it should support it fine, however I looked at using an extension plate and mount to add the tablet and I didn't think it would fit well and with that much weight hanging far from the mounting point on an extent plate I wasn't sure about how sturdy it would be.

I'm a big fan of proclip though and have always been satisfied with their products. The center console mount itself I have no complaints about, if that's what you are leaning towards I tji k it will work. It was only when I started adding on a ton more I wasn't sure about it

Thanks. I was thinking of mounting a phone or small tablet. For navigation, I use the HERE app and would be able to see it better if the device were higher up. I would use the Ram mount to elevate it.

I've used proclip before and really like their mounts. By far the best mounts if using a specific device. Combining it with the Ram mount, I hope, would provide some flexibility.

if you just have one device on the mount, proclip is probably the most stable option. I really prefer it for my phone because you just slide it in and out and don't need to open arms for a ram-x mount to grab. Magnetic is the only mount easier to use and those aren't as secure. I'm using the medium universal phone mount since my phone has a case, its still secure but the phone specific ones are the best. Proclip also has a center mount that is up by the center vents but I've always prefered the center console mount and have used that location on multiple vehicles. I've been a proclip customer for about 10 years, both for my personal use and when i managed a fleet. The other big advantage is that they are nondestructive and require no drilling or screws.

Proclip also makes some of the flexible gooseneck holders, but for the tablet in that location i think the ram mount is the best solution

I believe that proclip has universal ball mounts you could attach a ram mount to, if not you would just need to get a ball mount that matched the hole pattern. it should work
 
Ram mount, bolted to dash

Just thought I'd throw my 1 cent in. I did my research and have tried several different mounts and didn't have much luck with them. After reading this thread I decided to go with a ram mount, bolted to my dash. I don't mind the reduced visibility as it's not really that bad in my opinion, and it puts my iPad right where it's easy to see for me or the passenger. It bolted on to my dash (using a base plate under the dash) nice and clean and with the ram mounts being modular in design, I can mount whatever I want to it. Oh, and this mount is absolutely solid. Even on serious trails, almost no shake, bounce or jiggle.

Looks really solid. How difficult was it to get the dash off and back on? Was there room for the backing plate or does the dash bulge there now?

If my adhesive backed magnetic mount doesn't hold up, this would be my next approach.

It wasn't to difficult to install. I just youtube'd how to remove the radio console and the clock. Once those were removed (about 10 minutes max to remove those) I was able to install the mount.

It was slightly difficult to line up the back plate under the dash with the mount on top of the dash, but once it was lined up, the screws went right in. The back plate under the dash is small enough that it doesn't cause any warping or bulging on the dash. I had to cut the bottom of the front screws as they were in the way of reinstalling the clock...but once i cut the bottom of the screws off, the clock slide right back into place.

Looks like the same sight lines I have and it's only maybe an inch of the iPad that impacts the road, almost all of it is blocking only the view of the clock, dash and hood.

Even with aluminum brackets behind the plastic for the ball mount, the actual plastic itself is not firm enough to prevent wobbles, the bottom pushes in and out too easily.

What I did was fab a quick little aluminum bracket that supported the bottom to a bolt so that I can pull in the bottom to keep it tight and prevent wobble. This was a quick proof of concept, I am going to actually make a bracket that all the screws can attach too which will have a tab like this to mount to a bolt. It is screwed tight to the plastic and then another nut (and washer and lock washer and backer nut) is used to pull the entire screw towards the bolt.

Right now I have the ram mount post extension friction fit with electric tape to make sure I like the height before PVC gluing the post together, but I think the location works well with my first cut.

Where'd you mount the rest of the mobile HAM unit? How did you run the faceplate to the knockout down there?
 
I ran a wire to the faceplate through the center console and the radio is mounted under the driver seat

The line of sight doesn't bother me...but i did just order a slightly longer arm which will allow me to lower the ipad slightly and also push it a little more upright rather than have it lean back so far.

Did you have to remove your front seat to mount the radio? Do you have power seats or manual? Any constraints with moving all the way forward or backwards?
 
Hey all, sorry to (somewhat) resurrect this older thread. I’m wanting to install a ram mount solution in my 5Th gen and just wondering if anyone has any additional photos of their mounting points, ram mount bar locations, etc. I’ve found some decent pictures of LawnDarts solution, tried finding info on XO’s solution in Rufio (with zero luck), etc.

Any help would be appreciated!

This is exactly what I was looking to do. Nice, thank you much. I ended up getting the Scosche Pro, suction cup and will be mounting soon. I've not yet ordered the BT GPS unit, but will.

The problem I'm running into is my iPad Mini is a V1 - and most mapping systems / apps aren't compatible, so far just Google Maps and ScenicMap - which I've not messed with. I really want to run OnX Offroad, since I use their hunting app. Easy solution with the suction mount thou.
 
I like it - clean install just have to train the brain on the visuals... I use that same mag mount for my Pedal Commander.
