Took the advice from this thread and called my local Toyota Pats Dept and they confirmed the one I’m buying from out of state DOES have KDSS. Whew.

Just as another confirmation: Yes, it has KDSS. On that picture you can see that sway bar is attached to LCA which is where sway bar is attached on KDSS equipped 4Runners .

When I was searching dealer inventories for 4Runners a few weeks ago I had a hell of a time figuring out which rigs had KDSS and which didn't. Most of the time it wasn't listed anywhere online. It is listed on window stickers, or a quick look underneath will give the answer, but that doesn't help online... One of the dealers I looked at had 4 TRD Off Roads with identical descriptions (except color), and just stock photos. The only difference was the MSRP, which gave me a hint.

the funny thing is that once you know, you can spot it from 3 sides, at 100 yards.... I was once in the same boat.

I'm a "researcher". I love reading up on things and learning about them so I'm well informed when I go to make a purchase. By the time I go to a dealership I've already made up my mind, so I don't really care what they have to say, unless I can use it to try to get a better price. It doesn't take much to know more about a vehicle than the average salesman at a dealership. Most rely on charisma, not knowledge of the product. I'm too polite to let them know I can tell they are bullshitting. I've found motorcycle dealers to be the worst. Harley guys know one thing, "Harleys are badass and all other bikes are for *****es". Japanese streetbike guys only know that their stock is "really, really fast. Faster than all the rest." BMW/Ducati guys know that, "all those other bikes are cheap junk". Etc.

Just get under it And look at the sway bars. If there is a cylinder with dust cover connected to the sway bars on the drivers side, it is KDSS. Drop your spare tire and look, you can see it clearly.

Well if you are in Alabama, it won't have it unless you special ordered it. For some stupid reason, Toyota doesn't sell them in the "Gulf" states. Texas to Florida.
I went to a dealership in the country right outside of Austin and the first sales-person I talked to told me "all of our 4Runners have KDSS". None of them had KDSS. I asked him to walk me through the features of a 4runner even though I already knew and he spent 5 minutes pointing out the tiny fins on the side mirrors and explaining to me how aerodynamic they are. Alrighty then.
Other dealerships had no idea what I was talking about, or the sliding cargo tray for that matter. I FINALLY found a dealership with one on order and I said I'd take it. When it arrived their buyer traded it to another dealership before I could buy it and apparently lost his job over it.
I checked cars.com daily for a couple months looking for a KDSS 4runner in Texas and there was nothing, like [MENTION=171879]mteolus[/MENTION] mentioned above. It doesn't help that most Toyota dealerships don't really list add-ons or features very clearly. I was ready to fly to New Mexico and drive one home but buying out of state has been a little tricky.
Out of nowhere one popped up at a dealership about 50 miles from the NM border that must have traded to get one. It wasn't selling out in the middle of nowhere and I managed to buy it over text message, have it driven down and they picked up my trade-in Subaru sight-unseen. It was awesome.
Anyway, the lack of knowledge by dealerships about KDSS is unreal.

It definitely is, but I figured it's partially due to there being so few of them in my area as well. As much of a headache as it's been to just try and test drive one with it I'm considering opting to get a 4Runner without it. The closest Toyota dealership has one with it equipped but after an ordeal with them last week/weekend I doubt I'll buy anything from them.

I bought mine in the Phoenix suburb of Peoria (Larry Miller Toyota) and drove it back myself. Amarillo had one (only because they special ordered it) but they would not negotiate any more than $900 off. Thus off to Phoenix. Used my air miles, didn't have a trade-in. Negotiated $2900 off via email. Might have done better than that but I had no time as my Escape's engine died. Never had a vehicle not make it to 200,000 miles but it's the first Ford I ever had. Last one too.

Dealers rarely know anything about what they sell unless they are actually into it, high end brand or a specialty dealer.
