could the symptoms described, not including to the CEL code, be attributed to timing being off? i had the timing belt replaced back in December and i'm wondering if somehow the timing got off somehow after it was done. the first signs of this issue weren't until a couple months after.

I had the same problem on my 98 tacoma 3.4 and CEL would come on for a little bit then of course when I went to get it checked it went off and they said they couldn't check it like the idiots they are. But finally got it fixed by replacing the MAF. Fixed problem right away. But now I'm having an issue with a plug keeps fouling out with no CEL on at all. So no idea what cylinder it is. Replace all plugs with toyota plugs problem goes away got my power back. 2 months later plug fouled again. Replace all plugs problem goes away few months later well I guess you get the my frustration. Still no CEL. Truck has 278K on it

It does seem to be something associated with higher RPMs. Would the cam position sensor, MAF and/or igniter function correctly up to 2500rpm? If so they are likely the cause - my guess is the sensor.

No Spark

Hey guys, I’ve been scrolling through old threads looking for some sort of insight into this crazy problem in having.

I have a 1996 v6 4x4 Limited and after a throttle body cleaning and spark plug change I am no longer able to start the car.

Here’s how it all started...

I got the bright idea to give my throttle body a good cleaning. I removed everything and the cleaning went great. I had a nice clean throttle body ready to go and I thought to myself.. “let’s change the spark plugs and wires!”

Got the car all out back together and now it won’t start.. i know I am getting fuel because after a few tries at starting I can smell the gas... I checked all my wires and still nothing...

I’m at a loss for words because I’ve never had an issue like this for something this simple..

Any insight would help a ton.. I’ve researched for two weeks and can’t get my baby back on the road..

swap the suspect coil to another cylinder and see if it throws the same code in that cylinder. couldn't be easier! good luck! (dont forget to clear the codes first)

Did you get the plug wires back in the correct order?

Plug the MAF sensor back in?
