How easy to turn 22re out of truck by hand?

On the hunt for a motor for my 88. I got it to run but it has a rod knock. A buddy has a few complete engines at his shop and thinks they were good when pulled. I turned two with a 12" breaker bar with plugs in. They turned like butter. Seemed too loose to have decent compression??
So, question is...How easy should a 22re turn with no drag from belts, clutch, etc.
We tried doing a compression test with a Milwaukee electric impact but it wouldn't turn the crank pulley.
Complete motor is 200 bucks so I am tempted to take a chance on it. Next step may be to loosen belts on my 94 and see how it turns with clutch depressed.
Thoughts?

I would loosen the belts on yours and get a feel for how it should rotate. Only you can feel that out and give an accurate comparison.

I don't think you'll get the rotations from an impact to do a compression check. If the engine is on a stand it'll be easier to do a leak down check of each cylinder.

And you'll get more information from a leak down test anyway. Get a good kit, not a HF one if you're going to bother with it at all.

For future reference, impacts will very rarely turn a pulley, you need a drill for this although I doubt you'll get a crank to spin with anything other than maybe Hole Hawg (high torque, low RPM). That crank bolt might be a trick to get free now though...
