How long did you wait for your Trail Edition?

Im just starting the search for a new truck. I have my heart set on a 4runner, likely a Trail Edition. My only question is how long did you have to wait to get your Trail Edition? I have been driving a car since I got my license. I want to get into off-roading, and there is trail about an hour and a half away with some beginner trails!

My goal is to have the new truck by mid to late May. It will be a nice graduation present for myself!!

I hope to become a solid member here in the future!! I've been lurking long enough!!! This will also be my first truck!! Im excited!

Congrats on graduation! Go with the trail in my opinion if you can live without the leather. I love my SR5 w/premium but like the bumper/trim of the trail. Not a fan of the 20's on the limited and you really don't need 4WD all the time. Best looking 4R out there is the definitely the Blizzard Pearl SR5/Limited with the TE conversion. Just my 2cents. Welcome and good luck!
 
I spent several weeks looking before I found one I wanted. Most dealerships didn't have any and those that did only had 1 or 2.

I am am finding the same to be true for me. The local dealer didn't have one and said they sell like hot cakes when I went in last week.. I haven't had a chance to visit the large Toyota dealership to the north yet though..

When I graduated University I celebrated with women, drugs and alcohol... to each their own!!

Congrats and welcome to the club. Go with the TE, no matter what the wait. You didn't finish school overnight, so what's the rush. If you want to add heated leather seats after it's a fairly easy mod.

I've been under the impression that is what college was all about!! I've been told people frown upon that one you have to get a real job!!!

Regardless I am probably going to wait till I find a TE I like.

I ordered mine last July 3. It was built on Sept 4, went on the ship Sept 5 and arrived in LA Sept 23. I got it from the dealer Sept 28. So, very close to 3 months.

I went out last weekend in my Trail with a group from this forum and this weekend ran 3 trails in the Arizona desert. Get a trail, the extra approach angle and locker are great.
 
Here in Northern California Toyota Marin was able to get one right away, although I was told there were only 3 in the State at the time. They are a pretty good size dealer, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Of course I think the TE is the way to go, 100% stoked with mine after 6 months.
 
I wanted one with only KDSS and NAV/Etune. In the Southeast (NC) I was told 2-4 weeks if you wanted to "order" one. Basically they had to catch it when it "arrived" from whence it came, and stop any added options I didn't want (running boards, extra protection stuff, etc). Was prepared to do that, when I found one right next door to me exactly how I wanted except added carpet mats, which I negotiated down to lower the price.
 
Didn't wait at all. CAME to the dealer (twice), SAW 2013 dark grey Trail and CONQUERED by writing sizable check and driving one away.
 
2 months for the limited.

And WTF those who say things like ''didn't pick limited because of 20 in wheels'' it's like 1/15th of the option package, just change them if you don't like! :)

I used a car broker and waited about 30 minutes from the time I said "find me a silver trail with kdss, nav, and no running boards" until he emailed me saying he had it ready to go.
 
Spent a couple of nights after work searching the online inventory of all the Toyota dealerships within a hundred miles. Sent out quote inquiries only to the dealerships that had TE 4runners in stock. Found 2 in Black, one sold before I could negotiate getting the TRD rims swapped for stock rims and the other I just bought on Saturday.
 
I actually bought a 2013 TE today. I put $500 down to have it transferred from a dealer on the other side of FL.

I really wanted leather, so I had them add it to my TE prior to taking delivery. Magnetic gray TE, Nav, leather, every option I could get on it essentially.

Turned out there weren't exactly a pile of these things spread all over....there were 2 that met my criteria in FL. Played a couple dealerships against each others numbers for 48 hours, and dropped my deposit at the best of'em on my lunch break today.

I'll be driving my new 4Rer by this weekend and I'm friggin psyched! Trading in an 08 Sport Edition, and paying cash for the rest. It's shaping up to be a damn good week. Good luck with your TE!
 
Availability of the TE depends on which region you live in. Each region sets their own quotas; some have plenty and some have very few. Here in the Gulf States Region (TX, OK, LA, MS, AL) they are very hard to find. I searched for a month to find one in Texas. When I searched on line the same three vehicles kept coming up regardless of which dealer's inventory I was looking at. Once I got past that I was able to discern that one was in OK, one in MS and one in TX, which turned out to be at the dealership nearest to me. A couple of dealerships offered to order one and both quoted 4 months. Other dealerships wouldn't even consider ordering one.
 
I looked for about 3 weeks, then found 1 a thousand miles away, which I bought. Too bad I didn't live where I do now, then. In the south east, TEs with KDSS were like hen's teeth last year.
