How long did your xreas last??

Whats up guys, been doing a long debate on lift options. Xreas is still good. How long did yours last before it crapped out? I have an 07 sport v6 4x4 with 115k. Don't know if i should through some spacers on it until suspension goes out. Or save up and do a complete suspension swap. Thoughts, suggestions?

There's a thread on here somewhere with different mileage but coming from someone with xreas and spacers. Just do the swap and be done with it.

Stock XREAS, still good. Never a problem. Going on 12 years now with my 2003.

You just think your XR is still good! I just removed mine last Friday on my 08 with 62K miles. My D/S front was just starting to seep. I installed an Icon suspension and the difference is absolutely amazing. You don not feel every little blemish in the road, no lean in corners. That's just on the road!

There's 145k on mine and it feels fine, but I've only had the truck for a month or so so I really don't know for sure. No sign of leaks that I can see.

I considered the spacer lift to even out the rake but decided that, at this mileage, I'd just save my pennies for a full suspension swap and only do the work once.

Absolutely not! The ride is much more controlled, a little more firm but in a good way.

221000 on my 2003 Sport with no problems so far. Had a friend with a FJ ride with me and ask if I had new shocks. Speaks volumes about either xreas or the FJ ride.

Switch my suspension out at 140k miles. Thought about the spacers but was concerned about possibly blowing a seal for something. It does ride a bit firmer but I prefer that over the plush ride (especially in cornering).

My 2008 has just over 150k and the xreas is just about shot. Hopefully in another 2 weeks or so I can get the Taco struts and shocks swapped in.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I think I will wait it out a little while longer and save up for a new setup. It's going to mostly see pavement. Are there some setups better for pavement vs off road? Is it better to piece your suspension together vs kits?? My goal it to get a lift where it is leveled out and a cpl inches higher than stock..

I guess you could say I am piecing mine together. I was going to do the full Icon kit front and rear but that would put my rear at a minimum of 2 inches higher than stock. Since I am waiting for my tires to wear out I did not want to be up that high right now. So I tore out my XREAS and put the Icon's up front and installed new shocks in the rear. I have my Icon's set at about an 1.5 inches to where it is level. I am figuring by the end of summer my tires will be worn out. I will simply put the rear Icon setup on and get some bigger tires.

I am 90% on road as well and do not want to sacrifice too much on road feel and such. I am going to take some pics of my 4R today and will post them up for you to take a look at.

It should last a long, long time. I think it might last as long as the 4runner.

Bought my 2008 with 67,000 miles, they took a dump at 70,000. And I mean a complete loss of pressure and all. It didn't matter though, just made me motivated to move on to FJ springs and shocks...

Testing xreas?

Im an am at 137,xxx miles on my 2005 sport and as far as I know xreas is still working, but is there anyway to test or assess the condition of xreas? I know that at some point it will need replacing, but not quite ready to do so yet. But while under the truck doing some routine maintenance I noticed part of the rear shock had sort of rusted off....anyone have some insight on this...obviously its not ideal but should I be seriously concerned? it looks like just a bit of piece of housing...

Needless to say my city loves salt

Your kidding right? I would get those off as fast as I could. What about the supporting hardware?

Just wishful thinking. I was pretty bummed when I saw that. I just had some "emergency" brake work done and paid more than I would have liked. The supporting hardware is solid. It has a light dusting of rust but not nearly as bad as the picture. The front two look fine all around. And the opposite rear is still in one piece but you can feel/tell that a similar thing is happening.
